Hello! I also applied for the GEM program for Fall 2017 and was starting to wonder about this as well, especially since they said they would send out the interview sign up link toward the end of January. I am signed up to attend a mock interview session tomorrow, so that should be helpful in finding out more information about the interview process.

I signed up for the mock interview on Feb. 15th. I saw they were doing them all the way up until Feb 22nd, isn't that the day the real interviews are supposed to start?! Let me know how the mock interview goes, please.

How did the mock interview go? Did you find it beneficial?

It was definitely helpful! We will have group interviews (about five candidates) with two interviewers. The questions they asked in the mock interviews were pretty normal (why nursing, why UIC, how do you handle high-stress situations.) They were conducted by current students, so they were able to give lots of tips on how to stand out in the interviews. The things that stuck out to me were

1. Reference your current and prior work or volunteer experience as it relates to nursing.

2. Look into the research being conducted by faculty and talk about specific faculty you might like to work with on their current research and why.

3. They discourage you from bringing a notebook or taking notes during the interview. They would prefer you listen to the other candidates' responses and be fully present during the interview.

Also, interview invitations should be sent out by the end of next week at the latest!

I think it may be! I received an e-mail on 1/27 with a link to sign up.

Also, I received an invitation to interview on Friday! I signed up for 2/21. Will anyone else be there that day?

I am interviewing on 2/21 too! Thanks for all the info. I started looking into the faculty and research, but I hadn't thought about relating to nursing in my current field. That's good advice.

Ah my previous post didn't post. But thanks for posting the link! I wouldn't have been able to go anyway with work. However, I am curious as to why they would send some students mock interview sign up links and not everyone that applied? I'm also interviewing on 2/21! Hope to see you guys there. Let me know how the mock interview goes.

That is super strange! I did contact the people hosting the mock interviews before I was invited though. Maybe they contacted people with general inquiries?

Interesting, well I'm sure we'll all do fine. I feel as though the questions will be extremely general and nothing too difficult. That's the hope anyway.
