I found a cheap 3rd edition ons core curriculum book, published in 98. Is this so old it wouldn't be worth bothering with? I'm not ready to get certified but I thought this would be a cheap oncology resource until I'm ready to buy the up to date books for the certification.

I'm pretty sure a 16 year old text isn't going to have some of the content you'll need to prepare for the test. It probably won't hurt for some general knowledge, though.

That's what I was thinking, more for just general oncology info.

The OCN cert test still uses a pretty dated Study Guide and Core Curriculum, they haven't had a new ed out in many years(2005ish). An older book, as others have mentioned, won't have the latest and greatest, but I've found the dated 2005 one to be the best: http://www.amazon.com/Study-Guide-Curriculum-Oncology-Nursing/dp/0721603599

Be careful about using an outdated text. The OCN exam is evaluated every 3 years for outdated information questions and anything referring to outdated information is thrown out. If you use an outdated text, you may well review information that you consider "general oncology info" and it has been thrown out by ONCC as outdated. I would highly encourage you use the most recent core curriculum for studying and be sure that if you are reviewing a course that it is written based on the ONCC test blueprint from 2012.
