RSU Fall 2010

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

Hey all!

Was just wondering if anyone else out there is starting RSU's nursing program this Fall... I am and I am soo excited! I would love to meet others who are starting with me....

Looking forward to meeting all my classmates,

Ashley

I didn't procrastinate. I had to wait until I had money to order it. Unfortunately $65 is something that has to be budgeted in for our family. I ordered it the very next possible paycheck after orientation. I've been on top of my deadlines and will continue to stay on top of my deadlines. I would think that paying someone for a service that THEY advertise as taking 2-3 days constitues a deadline on their part. I'm paying them for a service, not asking them for a favor. Not trying to some off as rude, but I'm already massively irritated by the situation and your reply came off as demeaning, whether you meant it to or not.

I spoke with ****** today about the issue and she said she was aware of it. Some of the clinical sites this year are requiring a "stamped" paper from OSBI, and apparently OSBI are the ones dragging their feet (but who really knows). She said not to worry about it since we don't REALLY need them until we start clinicals in Sept. She knows it's out of our control and that we met our deadlines.

For what it's worth I'm not impressed with the company, the way they are setup, the service, or the cost vs value of the service. All you get is a worthless email that you could have forged yourself. I don't blame the clinical sites for wanting an official paper with a seal vs something we printed off ourselves. I thought that when they said they would "email" us the results and I thought that when I got the emailed results, "they're going to accept this?"

At least with the FBI or OSBI you get an offically stamped document. Really though, in a perfect world the clinical sites would run the check and it would never come through our hands.

As far as OSBI holding things up, they can be horribly slow. I don't know what it is now but a last year you were looking at about 3 months to get a CC permit processed through OSBI. And they have been known to be cranky. I don't think background reports are high on their to do list.

And for what it's worth I didn't mean to come across as demeaning anymore than you probably meant to come across as whiny and demanding. (; :p :)

I don't know where they pulled this company from but they need to throw it back and stick with the standard Oklahoma or Federal Bureau of Investigation.

guys, just a quick reminder on terms of service of the site

no potentially libelous information about specific schools, instructors, or health care facilities/entities should be posted in these forums. while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.

2. while this site is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.

3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

$65 for your background check!!! Are they doing something different? Hi guys I am going into my 2nd year of nursing at RSU if you have any questions. If they do it the way we did it youll have skills labs and lectures for the first few weeks. The teachers are awesome and you will be led step by step the first few weeks so dont worry. If I could give any advice it be NOT to get overwhelmed and dont try to print all the documents youll need all at once. It will all make sense to you after a bit of time. As far as the white pants......white granny panties and an extra pair in the car for emergency back up :) the uniform actually looks great witht the navy top and the white pants. Congrats and see you at school!

hey all, I was reading your string on RSU, and was thinking about trying to get in their ADN program next year. I have a question for you though. Do you know if your clinicals are going to be during the day or evening or both? Just trying to prepare myself beforehand because of family concerns. Congrats to everyone that got in! I think we're going to move to Claremore this fall, and take the prereq's in the spring.

I'm excited to see what you all have to say about the classes this fall, it gives me a good idea of what nursing school is going to be like!!

Our clinicals are during the day on Mondays and Tuesdays and nursing classes are wednesdays and thursdays with fridays off. Good Luck to you! Nursing applications are due March 1st. If you are able to squeeze all of your pre-reqs into that spring semester you can still apply because they do not look at grades until the end of the spring semester. Hoped that helped! If you have any further questions I would be glad to help if I can!

Wow, so it's only a 4 day class week. That would still give me a little time to work during the semester (I'm a CNA/CHHA and can do home health with a company in Claremore) and let us be able to have a daycare schedule. Some of the RN programs in Tulsa had day classes, but your clinicals were all over the place, days, evenings, weekends, I've seen it all. That would work perfectly!

Me and my best friend are wanting to go to RN school at RSU. We both already have Comp 1, and she took Orientation at RSU a few years ago, so it would just be the other 3. Bio, A&P, and Dosage. Is the dosage class hard?

Thank you SO MUCH for answering! I'll look forward to seeing you next year!

Is the dosage class hard?

It wasn't for me. I did ZERO studying for that class and only missed 2 homework questions and zero test questions for the whole semester. It's basically two formulas and that's it. I do know that there were a couple of people in my class that I overheard having issues and constantly making errors on homework and/or tests, but I'm not sure they were really dedicated or focused on school, based off of their other conversations in class. So, you should know pretty quick if you are going to struggle. If by the third class you are still having trouble with it, then it's not going to get any easier. Get those last few pre-reqs out of the way and apply March 1, 2011!

Good luck! :yeah:

Also, I believe Bio is a pre-req for A&P. I suggest you take Bio this fall and then you would be able to enroll in A&P and Dosage in the spring and still meet all your deadlines.

first year i had two 8 hour days of clinicals but some had 1 twelve. this year second years have one 12 a week. the program seems to be evolving a changing with the goal to be always improvement. who knows what next year will bring. i love the program amd feel bessed. i know my caps are wrong but im on my kindle and it takes too long to mess with it. gl

Ok, nother question then....the placement test for the math to get into dosage, is it the compass test or do they give you a specialized test? And is there some way to study for the test? I've been out of math for a while, and am not sure what to expect. Do I need to get an ACT study guide or are there sheets somewhere on campus that will help me? Sorry to be asking so many questions, but I want to make sure I'm prepared.

Thank you to all that have answered, you have all been very kind.

Go to the testing center on the second floor of Markham Hall and they will give you a practice/review sheet. Work through this and make sure you know how to do the types of problems on the sheet and that's basically all you need to know. I overstudied, it's very basic math.

Concerning dosage calculations....do lots and lots of practice questions and dont miss any of the lectures. If you have a hard time make an appointment to see the instructor, they want you to be successful! I even asked for extra practice questions. Once you got it down though youll be like, woe!! thats not so bad :) Also, when I took it there were 5 pont quizzes at the begining of every class those points are very impoprtant. First time I took Dosage I missed clasess and quizzes and got a C in the class the next time I got an A. Dont underestimate the value of those points.

Holy mamba-jamba! I got the rest of my books today  I knew med-surg would be big... but maternal & newborn was almost 2000 pages! Great googly moogly... I think I might have to get a rolling bag for those bad boys.
