Ohio Health and OSU

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

So I keep seeing all the great things happening in Columbus and it has really got me thinking about moving down there after school. I know Columbus, like Cleveland, has a lot of nursing schools so finding a new grad job wont be easy.

Anywho, does anyone know any real good hospitals to work for down there? I know there is OSU, OhioHealth, and Mt Carmel.

Any input from current or former employees would be great! New grad nurse pay starts from $25-$26/hr here, not sure of shift differentials.

Thanks!

OhioHealth.. I'm not sure. I can give you some info on their various area hopsitals. I know that Dublin Methodist is a beautiful hospital in a nice suburban area. It's great for cuts and such, but not great for true emergencies. They do a lot of OB and spine. Riverside Methodist Hospital does it all. They're a great hospital. Grant Medical Center is older and downtown, but also great. They are the go-to place for trauma. I've never really heard anything bad about OhioHealth as a whole.

OSU... I would avoid 11 Rhodes and the 10th floor of both Doan and Rhodes. I'm sure not all those units are bad, but I cannot remember between Rhodes and Doan and East and West!! The new James Cancer Hospital is AMAZING. Ross Heart Hospital is amazing as well.

I'm not really pro or anti union. Well, I guess I might be a bit anti union. It is more money than it's worth. And I didn't like my salary being spelled out for me year by year. Why bother working your butt off when it doesn't matter anyway? The lazy nurse next to you gets the same salary bump. And they honestly don't protect you. Sure the union contract may say you can only work so many hours and can only be mandated so many times but OhioHealth treats their employees better than OSU, even with the union. I'm not saying OSU treats them poorly by any means but the union provides no benefits over other hospitals yet you have to pay a ton of $$ for it.

P.S... the system won't let me send a PM yet :(

any info what the 11 weeks orientation look like at mount carmel for a new grad RN?
