CWRU Grad Entry 2013

U.S.A. Ohio

This post is for anyone interested or accepted into Case Western Reserve University's Graduate Entry Nursing Program for Fall 2013. I am currently accepted into the program and just looking to get information from other accepted students into the program. Is anyone else having a hard time finding buzz on this topic?

Anyone want to report back on how things are going so far this school year? I deferred my admission until next fall, but I'm not certain yet what my plans are. I'd love to here how you all like the program though!

Hi sarasays! I know this is a very delayed response, but as far as the program goes, I would still recommend it! You begin clinicals immediately (my first day was at UH, not in the classroom) and it is almost amazing how much you learn in such little time. One hidden gem that I didn't realize previously is the opportunity to work at the student run free clinic. You work alongside medical students, doctors, nurse practitioners, and students from the sociology program which gives you the chance to hone your skills, work with an interdiciplinary focus (a focus that is highlighted throughout the program), and serve a community that really needs it. I would say that the program doesn't seem unmanageable at this point (of course it only gets harder as you go), and that its not difficult to have a life outside of school. Any other specifics you are looking for?

Hey Sarasays, I just graduated from the program and I wish I had gone to an accelerated BSN. The teachers are incomptent as are the women who run the program. It made me hate school and I have always loved school. The clinicals were good, but there is no preceptorship which is a HUGE deal. I personally envied the accelerated BSNs who got a much better experience shadowing RNs and doing preceptorships. Also, we generally weren't allowed to do as much as BSNs and accelerated BSNs. Further, the MN is not accredited (which they conveniently never mention) which can be a problem if you decide you don't want to finish at CWRU (which I personally would rather be an RN forever than continue there). I would look elsewhere. I feel like I wasted two years worth of tuition in a terrible program. If I could do it over, I would have gone to Ursuline (or any accelerated BSN near you is probably fine).

I think the only reason this program has a good rep is because the people they accept are all very motivated. It's well known that the majority of professors don't want to teach our program. To further highlight how little I think of this program, I've retained more in two weeks doing the Hurst review for the NCLEX than in the two years of actual class time. Oh, and I had a 4.0. I'm not saying this because I feel jilted in my grades. I'm trying to save people from making the mistake I did.

I got accepted to DePaul's MENP and Case Western's grad entry...but reading your post makes me very nervous....since it's been about a year since this post...do you feel any different about the program?

Specializes in Cardiology.

I would stay away from Case's MN program. It's not even accredited which is reason enough to stay away. Also its around $2000 per credit hour. Yes you read that correctly. $2000 per credit hour. Its better to do an accelerated BSN program.

I'm more interested in the end result of the entire program and the learning experience. How are the professors, etc?
