Im 19 and a newly licensed LPN. I went through a career and tech center my jr and sr year in highschool. Im in college in an LPN to BSN program but want to start working. What counts as continuing ed to keep your license up? And what is a good first job? I hate nursing homes because they are so depressing but think that is the only option? What do you all think? Do you use it as a stepping stone and suck it up? Plus i have a dumb question. I never ever miss church, i go thursdays, sunday am and sunday pm....some people dont feel it is a big deal missing, however with us it is. You really hate missing church, but when your a nurse it is near impossible to find a job where you dont work sundays. Anyone hear of any ways around working sundays? I know as an STNA i worked every saturday and got my sundays off,....but i dont know how many facilities will let that be an option. :uhoh3:

Your local community college might offer CEU classes. Ask a counselor.

I work at a nursing home in Texas. All of our nurses have Saturdays and Sundays off, because there are people like me who purposely work the weekend doubles to cover staffing. I work the Baylor Plan, which involves working two 16 hour double shifts on Saturday and Sunday, having Monday through Friday off, and getting paid for 40 hours. Since I work the weekend shift with a crew of other weekend staff, the rest of the facility nurses automatically get all of their weekends off.

Wow, that sounds great, i will have to check and see if any of our area nursing homes offer anything like that. Thanks :-)
