Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she... Read More

    Montserrat, for a girl.

Nice, I suppose, but she was in the NICU and someone made her a cute name sign. At first glance it looked like "Monster rat"

This thread is way to long for me to check and see if anyone has mentioned this already, but I have seen not one but TWO different little girls named Abc'de ... pronounced AB-suh-dee ... I am almost convinced the mothers drank their weight in wine after delivery to come up with that crap!

ROFLOL, this thread is hilarious. It should be printed and passed out to expectant mothers. Is there a book out there about what to NOT ever name your baby?

OK I am totally tripped out by these names. My daughter's name is Mia but I call her Miss Lou because her dad is from Louisiana and I am from Mississippi, at least it ain't on the birth certificate.

I have a patient on my unit named Richard Head...I KID YOU NOT!!!!!
I honestly went to high school with a Richard Head, but the funny thing is that I never found it to be an unusual name ... ... nor did he undergo any level of ridicule from what I recall, especially being that it was an all-boys school ... he was actually a nice quiet guy.

Anyway, the most unfortunate little girl I know of is a toddler named Cherish Maya Beaver. I'd be changin' that if I were her...
This is a real person, she is actually on a social networking site, sans the Maya. That's all I am saying!

Margarita, which a lot of people have pointed out as weird, is actually spanish for Margaret. I went to high school with two girls whose parents were born in Mexico (they were born here, though) whose middle names were Margarita. One girl's name was Corina Margarita, which of course led to people calling her CORONA MARGARITA. The sad thing is that she's 21 now and actually likes the nickname.

Does anyone know was Salvia is? It's a legal drug. My friend gave her daughter the middle name Salvia. That's like naming your kid Cocaine. Honestly. (At least a lot of people have never heard of it, though.)

I guess because I am Latino, I never found the humor with the name Margarita as correlating to the alcoholic drink. However, when a NYC law firm catering to Latino clientele chose to advertise their phone # on the subway as 1-800-MARGARITA (referring to the name of the Spanish-speaking staff member who would answer the phone to assist them), I could not help to crack up [tacky!!] ... the number has since been discontinued I understand (poor Margarita probably quit or retired or whatever, lol) but there was some racial discussion about it online which I found interesting:

I swear, when I first read your post I thought you said your friend named her daughter SALIVA (as in spit ) ... well, come to think of it I am positive after reading this thread there is some poor soul out there with that name (whose mom insists it's pronouced Sah-LEE-vay) !!!
