and I helped (kinda) deliver a baby!! I have dreaded OB so bad but this day was great. The baby had a cleft pallet, DR had to manually remove the placenta, I got to insert the cath. The nurse I was assigned to was GREAT! she was so patient & let me do everything I was comfortable with doing. I know what a fundus feels like now, got to dry the baby I could go on & on. My instructor came to me after clinicals & said the nurse told her I did an exceptional job. :p Maybe I will like OB after all. I worked my butt off but it was a good day. Sorry for rambling but I just had to share.CRB

Good job. You know, regarding the comment about touching lives...........After almost 22 years, I still see the woman who was my care study when I was doing my OB rotation in nursing school. I did basically nothing for her during labor (because I had no clue what I was doing, really) but she still remembers to this day that I was there with her and still appreciates all that I did (whatever it was).

So my point.................we all touch lives (even when we are new at the job). You go, girl!!

Thank you all very much!! I am in newborn nursery next week so gotta go read & study some more & write that dang careplan. You know it was weird I did not know what I was doing but the Nurse that was with me made me think I did. I did my best to help the mom, fed her ice chips, fluffed pillows, held her & talked to her while she got her epidural. Then when the Dr put in the internal monitors I held her legs apart, talked to her some more, put clean pads under her when he broke her water, mopped up blood on the floor after delivery, cleaned the room ect. I did not know what to do really I just tried to do what I saw that was needed without being asked.I tried my best to have things on hand before they were needed & stay out of the way when I could not help.So thanks for the support cause I was scared to death.CRB

wow, sounds like you were a great help to mom & nurse both! I've met nurses who seem to do less for laboring moms than you did, bravo to you! Congrats on a great clinical experience and keep up the good work- you sound like a natural :)

I am so jealous!!! We don't do L&D until summer and I can hardly wait. I am glad you are enjoying yourself. good luck!!

I'm so glad that you had such an awesome experience. I've been doing L&D for over a year now and it never gets dull.

Enjoy the rest of your clinical experience. :balloons:
