Yeah but he might just want to get laid......

Somehow the human race has survived all these millenia, and seeing that most of the human race leaves their boys' memberes alone, I don't think he'll have a problem getting it when he wants it. And, since the circ rate is dropping in this country too, he'll be in good company. I ain't cuttin' my boy's winky just because everybody else does it or because 'everybody else' likes it.

Consult2,

Thank you for clarifying the medication type and also for all the interesting articles. Again, I am only a nursing student I don't claim to know everything, which was WELL stated. As you are certainly entitled to your opinion, so am I and I'd just like to ask you didn't you EVER make mistakes in nursing school, say something wrong, get a wrong answer, LEARN SOMETHING NEW? You didn't have to rip me apart. Why is it that experienced nurses eat their young? You could have certainly taught me something and gotten your point across without being so rude. Congradulations your long winded e-mail was read and heard! Remember, you were in my shoes once too. I really wanted to be an OB nurse because I so enjoyed my own birthing experiences, then when I went to do my rotation almost all the labor and delivery nurses ended up having the same attitude as you, I don't know if you are attempting to DISCOURAGE me... if that is the case it just reminded me of the kind of nurse I DON'T want to be. Oh, and I'm not a liar, I saw what I saw, the baby SLEPT... YES THAT'S RIGHT DEFYING YOUR ARTICLES AND ALL... the baby SLEPT through his circumcision. One positive thing I can say for you is at least your compassionate about something even if it's not people.

Looks, circumcised looks better.

Then you must not know how to properly stimulate a male, because I've seen both kinds, and once it's erect, you can't tell the difference.

Common in THIS country.....because in this country all people care about is aesthetics, and imposing their beliefs on a helpless baby who would surely tell the doctor or rabbi to get the F away from him!

Also, the biggest reason it stays in this country is because of the greedy, money hungry doctors who don't want to loose money.

How much is a family charged for circs done in hospital? How much goes to the doctor?

Many years ago, it was $35. I guess it's more, now that anaesthesia is used.......

If any girl rejects my son because of his foreskin, she is probably not the kind I'd want for him anyway.

If you let your son know about the above viewpoint, that's who he'll bring home!

He's 4....so hopefully he won't be bringing anyone home for a while. ;) But I do encourage him to be happy with who he is, and people who respect themselves tend not to put up with superficiality like 'not liking' him because he has a foreskin.

I can't figure out of you are for or against by that statement....hahaha

But it is a multi-million dollar "business" doctors and hospitals would loose a significant amount of money if everyone stopped circ'ing, and they know this...

and even if it is still $35, think about how many circ's they do in one month (depending on the hospital, obviously) that is an awful lot of money.

By no means was I trying to discourage you, or dump on you.. most people who have been here for a while know that I am facts and evidence oriented, and don't waste much time in presenting things other than short comments. I am sorry if this shortness came through as an attack, I was attacking the information, not you.

If you choose to disregard the evidence against sleeping, that is something I have no control over--believe it if it makes you feel better. By all means, continue with your training, but also be good enough to discard your prejudices when the evidence clearly contradicts it--THEN you will be a good nurse. A good nurse is one who has a healthy degree of skepticism.

Good luck,

In my area, the doctors charge ~$350 PLUS hospital expenses--now how much actually they get from the insurance co's, I do not know.

BTW, in MOST cases, anesthesia is NOT used nationally.

The estimates of income from circumcision is ~$500 Million, the other profits from it come to around another $1.5 Billion.

Hardly small change.

In response to Joe12:

I neither said I was for nor against. I was simply sharing information that I had learned. Shoot me, but I thought this Listserv was to learn and be supported (which I have done very much in the last few days, thank you all). The same thing I replied to Consult2 I can obviously apply to you... I am a nursing student, going into my third semester, I am NOT experienced and I am not armed with the copious amount knowledge that you fronted your rebuttle with to now throw some ignorant sarcastic statement back at you. I will say it again, you were all in my shoes once too, how about showing some understanding, I thought part of nursing was teaching and being compassionate. As I am not yet a nurse, maybe you could look at it like patient teaching and I could actually learn something from you more experienced ones in a constructive manner... keyword... CONSTRUCTIVE.

The facts in this discussion and all the evidence provided from both sides shows only one thing... this is merely an opinion, an opinion of a parent. Vaccinations are choice or an opinion and most of you would be horrified to hear that a mother wasn't taking her child to receive vaccinations. All numbers aside, vaccinations themselves hurt yes, however they have deadly side effects, just as NOT getting them has side effects, these numbers may not be equal, but it's the parents choice to decide what is the lesser of two evils to them. I've read posts in which parent's were seemingly crucified and ridiculed for simply saying that they did or would have their son circumsized.

One thing I have noticed is the websites and databases all this material is being pulled from. Some of the articles on both sides, yes are legit., however, there was a discrepancey with research done in Africa but that same person turned around and posted a website related to research done in the UK. I realize that the UK is closer related to the US then is Africa, but if information is dismissed because of the location of the source than ALL related resources should be considered irrelavent unless done and researched in the US. Apparently these are "just the facts" however, each side is providing the same amount of "facts" and disputing evidence. Again, what this boils down to is choice.

Foreskin has the POTENTIAL to cause complications and you can't argue that... it is a risk for a potential complication (maybe not NANDA approved, but still a risk). Equally as so if the foreskin is removed there are potential complications. A woman finding that she has the gene for breast cancer can have her breasts removed because they are a threat or a potential complication and we don't crucify her for her decision. So Joe12 if my son had earlobes that could potentially give him trouble and ridicule in gym class later on in life, yes, I would ask for the lido and have his earlobes removed!
