Question on most comfortable shoes

Does anyone wear Dansko, and if so how are they? I spent a fortune on birkinstock's, and I absolutely hate them! I want a pair of shoes that do not make your feet or back hurt, and don't take years to break in. I am searching for the perfect nursing shoe, if there is such a thing, lol :chuckle Anyone have any suggestions?

Merrell has a very comfortable shoe! No breaking in at all.

Oh, absolutely! SAS are the best nursing shoes! I buy them at my local uniform shop but probably any uniform shop can order them for you. Mind you, they are quite expensive, but not as much as Birkenstock! :rotfl: Are you of normal weight? Because if you aren't what helps is having a custom orthotic insole made at your local podiatrist. And wearing support hose, if you can find your size. I've seen Dansko in nursing catalogs, but they only come in medium widths, so can't help you there as I can't wear that width. Good luck, and welcome.

I love my Danskos! I won't wear anything else. I've had New Balance, Reebok, Nikes, etc. and there are lots of great things to be said about those for walking and working out. But for work, nothing beats a Dansko. They have the best arch supports! I hurt my knees a few years ago, and could barely walk. But with PT, and a PT recommendation that I try Danskos (or Birkenstocks, but I can't wear those :crying2: after all the $$$ I spent) I am now not only walking, but walked a half marathon. (In the New Balance -- Danskos are for work.) Danskos are expensive, too -- but the odd colors go on sale now and again. I have some that I bought for less than $30 at MJ Feet in Seattle! :)

Quarks by Nurse Mates - They are lightweight. I have had a billion different kinds of shoes and by feet and legs always burned after a 12 hour shift. Now I have happy feet and legs when I get off. :)

i recently purchased a pair of crocs. i have been wearing them for about 3 weeks now and my feet are in heaven!!! you can check them out at

islandtrends.com or crocs.com. the s/h is a little less expensive at island trends.

i also wear birkenstocks, i really like them too but the crocs are cheaper and seem to look better longer. plus...they have some great colors if you are allowed to wear them!!!

good luck in your search

SAS are the best. They are the only ones I buy now. No break in period. If you have to "break in" a shoe don't buy it. It should fit perfectly the first time on. :nurse:

I spent a small fortune looking for a comfortable shoe. I finally found Easy Spirit Dreamers. They are wonderful!!! Lightweight but with great support.Very cool and airy. Easy...no laces, just slip on like loafers. I buy them in wide...which is not something usually available for nursing type shoes.

I never want to be without them again so I buy online when they are onsale ( which by the way is right now...30 bucks! ) and keep a new pair in the closet...though they wear so well that I'm quite far from opening that next pair.

I would put them up against those heavy, clunky, expensive Dansko's and other assorted Sole Outdoors type shoes anytime. And I do LOVE Sole Outdoors for everyday wear shoes. Trust me on this!!!!

Tried a few pairs of Danskos, felt like i'd strapped two blocks to my feet. No give what so ever, they FELT awful.

Didn't like the Birkenstiocks as well.

I'd die without my z-coils. I got them specifically for the reasons you stated.

You can easily google z-coil for a store near you. And, if they don't have a store near you, they do online orders. I highly recommend that you check them out. I'd NEVER go back to regular shoes, not even dansko's. :)

i have recently purchased a pair of clarks..they are made just like dankos..but they are about 25-50 dollars cheaper..i have worn them to some of my 3 hour labs...and through shopping trips and they make my feet, legs and back so happy!...go to zappos.com..and check them out..most items are free shipping

I wear Pro Klogs and love them. I've tried many different shoes as well, many that I paid a fortune for and then ended up only wearing them for a few weeks because they hurt my feet so much. I tried Birkenstocks on in a shoe store once and they do not fit my fit correctly. I think that is the trick, finding a shoe that fits your unique foot shape.
