  1. Tube systems are a GODSEND!! I've worked with and without and can't imagine being without one. What a timesaver. How can a hospital not put one in? Is teleporting ala Star Trek a new viable option? I hope the leaving is joyful; and I hope never to return. Frida Kahlo Mexican painter (1907 - 1954)
  2. The truth hurts doesn't it. She's right about a lot of it. We are weak. We don't have a lot of power. We do skip our breaks and stay on our floors and are understaffed and do have patients lives in our hands every single day! We do take abuse. We work under fascist rule (JCAHO). Were exposed to all sorts of pathogens and workplace risks. I'm not even going to go over the god-awful documentation we have to do. I feel these things all the time. I'm never going to get over them. But.... My patients and some of my co-workers make it work for me. I don't feel like my pay is so bad either. I do feel respected as a person for my profession. I focus on these things. I love making people feel better. That's my reward.
  3. How about PostPartum couplet care? Or Gyn? Outpatient dialysis? I work in Women's Services which has both couplets and gyn's. Love it. It's clean, less complicated than many other areas. Usually happy. Postpartum is nice as there are not a lot of IV's and meds and I&O's. You spend a lot of time teaching. The charting is less complex as well. There is the breastfeeding teaching which can be very stressful and frustrating. That's the worst of OB nursing.
  4. I'm a diabetic with peripheral neuropathy. My feet are so sensitive and my toes just burn like they are on fire. I've found that Easy Spirit slip on sneakers with ventilation work the best for me but I'm having trouble with socks. I need really light and wide socks. As for Croc type shoes...love the support and aeration but those ghastly little bumps on the bottom are torture. I'm like the Princess and the Pea I guess. Does anyone have any suggestions about keeping feet cool? And cooling lotions or anything?
  5. I think they are outdated and needless. It's cosmetic surgery on an infant. There's no good reason to do them. As for how to help when they are done there are 4 ways to make it easier...1. Use sugar syrup (endorphins), 2. Always Lidocaine. 3. Plastibell use by the doctor, and 4. Tylenol afterwards. One thing I'm going to say that is personal is that I've had sex with circumcized and uncircumsized and the uncircumsized was far more comfortable!! That's something that is not umimportant.
  6. I spent a small fortune looking for a comfortable shoe. I finally found Easy Spirit Dreamers. They are wonderful!!! Lightweight but with great support.Very cool and airy. Easy...no laces, just slip on like loafers. I buy them in wide...which is not something usually available for nursing type shoes. I never want to be without them again so I buy online when they are onsale ( which by the way is right now...30 bucks! ) and keep a new pair in the closet...though they wear so well that I'm quite far from opening that next pair. I would put them up against those heavy, clunky, expensive Dansko's and other assorted Sole Outdoors type shoes anytime. And I do LOVE Sole Outdoors for everyday wear shoes. Trust me on this!!!! zonie
