Infant Warmer

Specialties Ob/Gyn

Hello fellow OB Nurses. I am a travel OB nurse on a trauma team. There are only 4 OB nurses in the whole hospital as there is no actual OB department. We recently had a pregnant trauma come in and I quickly discovered that our warmer was woefully under- stocked. Can anyone share with me their inventory sheet for their warmers? I would like something to take to our management to show what is needed in the warmers.

Thank you in advance,

Bobi

We have oxygen masks in a couple of sizes, suction catheters in multiple sizes, cord clamps, oxygen probes, multiple sizes of ET tubes, stylets...I can't think of anything else right now. When NICU comes, they might bring their code box which has a lot more stuff. We used to have meconium aspirators but it's not standard practice to use them anymore.

Thank you. We also have a separate code box. Right now a few of those items are on our warmer, but not all. We have no suction items at all. I was very frustrated during this Trauma.

Hats and "blue sucky things" (otherwise known as bulb syringes:laugh:.) Temp probe covers for the warmer probe. CPAP bags/various sizes of masks and at least one manometer with connector tubing. Saran Wrap to put over really small kids to help keep them warm (we used what we called "bowel bags" but I don't think that is what they really are called. We used the same thing for our gastroschesis kids..Saran works just as well.) And just in case the outcome is bad footprint inkers and a Polaroid camera. You really don't want to be hunting for them in desperation.

Specializes in LDRP.

I always make sure to have:

ET tubes (at least two of each sized 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0)

at least two stylets

Blades in sized 00, 0, and 1

EtCO2 detectors

suction catheter

bulb syringe

blankets

hats

diapers

stethoscope

Something for PPV (we have both a flow infalating bag and a neopuff with different sized masks for term and preemies)

pulse ox and the little velcro thingies to keep them on (we used to use coban, that works too)

plastic wrap

nasal cannulas

meconium aspirators (don't really use them anymore though)

We also have a separate code cart nearby with meds (epi, NS), syringes, a laryngeal mask, umbilical line kits, OG tubes, etc

We have warmers in our labor/delivery rooms and in the newborn nursery, and they are stocked a little bit different.

Labor rooms: 1 anesthesia bag, 1 infant oxygen mask, 1 neonate oxygen mask, betadine, 2 bulb syringes, 2 cord clamps, ETT tape, 2 temp probes, 8 pink/blue hats (4 of each color), scalpel, two 8 French suction catheters, 1 stethoscope, and oxygen and air tanks. We have a checklist on every warmer that we are supposed to go through when our patients are getting close to complete. It has every single one of these items on it and we just put a check by it, as well as record the volumes in the oxygen and air tanks.

Nursery: Foam Posey restraints, temp probes, heart leads, infant and neonate face masks, BP cuffs (several of each size), and bulb syringes. No specific number of any of these, just several of each.

Hope this helps!
