How common is PIH in subsequent pregnancies ?

It has been my understanding that it is uncommon for there to be PIH in a second or third pregnancy if you've had it with the first. Now I know there have been cases, but I am thinking of the claims of a friend of a friend that didn't have it with the first of second, but has it with her third. Is this plausable?

I had PIH with both my 1st and 3rd pregnancies but not my second.

it's very common to repeat incidences of gestational hypertension. All I have is anecdotal information, however, not any hard statistics. I see VERY many women who had previous gestational hypertension repeat it with EACH pregnancy later on. Obviously, most at risk are very young and older woman at age of pregnancy (teens and women over 35). It is also possible to have PIH with one pregnancy, yet not another. It's hard to say exactly WHY some people develop it one time and not the other, but it is plausible. Wish I had stats to point out for you. Sorry.

There is some research which suggests an immune component to PIH ie "allergy" to the father's genetic material. I wonder if any research exists which would show that a patient may have repeated cases of PIH in pregnancies fathered by the same man, but not in other pregnancies fathered by a different man.

I had pre-eclampsia (PIH) with all 3 pregnancies fathered by the same man. I have no children with a different father, so I can't speak to that element. Each of my pregnancies were terminated by emergency c-section due to impending eclampsia. I have a 30wkr, a 33wkr, and a 34w2d. They were all relatively healthy for their GA and came home afer 2-4 weeks in NICU.

No stats, just my experience. Had toxemia and PIH with the first, second PIH and third mild PIH.
