Specialties Ob/Gyn

Hey girls,

Navynurse brought it to my attention that I never let those of you interested know what the hell happened to me. Remember that "wonderful" hospital that was willing to 'bait and switch' this new grad into thinking it is a wonderful life???

Well, here is the scoop:)

I did infact have a meeting with the director and the nurse educator, who infact became quite defensive, something I did not indend to happen. I walking in as a professional and walked out with confidence in my decision. I reminded them that I asked point blank in the interview in regards to cross training. They were reminded that their answer is "no, no cross training" well they stuck with that and said that working in three different units with in a department is not in their eyes concidered cross training. I beg to differ, I also questioned the orientation process and how the heck am I going to be a good L&D RN if bouncing back and forth, they said that their program would and has turned out good L&D RNs. I beg to differ. I figured it would not be wise to bring up all the little things that bugged me, just the major contradictions, I don't intend to be known as a complainer, but someone who knows what she wants and is willing to stand up for her self. It ended congenially.

So the nurse manager from the city hospital calls me two days later, I go out there again, and she already has my orientation packet ready, gives me a couple of fetal monitoring books, ok's my days off with pay to attend a conference and gives me a long weekend before boards. She assured me no cross training for at least two years and that was only if I wanted to and only my desired unit. She introduced me to the nurse who will orient me a couple of days on day shift, rest of orientation will be with a 30 year experienced RNC on my prefered shift of nights and a sign on bonus.

So what do you think I did?????

This forest is running for the big city to get good experience, with hospital coverage of anestesia, ob, and neo. This is a medium sized hospital affiliated with two well known medical programs and residencies, where the RN still has the autonomy and the benefit of working with OBs that are teachers.

I plan to be good at what I do, well versed in the theory and diadatics of obstetrics and strong in the application. This is what is best for this new RN.;)

I am finishing up my time at the other hospital, they are worried that I am going to leave. I don't plan on giving them a date as I don't know myself and won't know until I get my letter(I check the mailbox daily) and will give them ample notice when I have further information. For know, I am playing it cool, doing what I have to and taking good care of my patients. I am not making promisses, but keeping up their confidence so I don't find myself between jobs, something my finances can not handle right now. I know not the best but I have to look out for my family.

So girls there is the big scoop on this new grad.

Thanks again for all of the support!!!:kiss

I am getting excited about the big city move, very diverse patient population. Lots of Hispanics, so I can continue to learn their language, something I speak un poqueto y muy mal, he, he!!!
