do you use binders at your facility? I am at a new one and they do...i have never seen them before. After c sections they put these girdle type binders around the abdomen. We just had them splint when getting up at mine. They look so uncomfortable.

Yes I saw them all the time during clinicals and as an extern, the purpose is to keep the wound well approximated. They are used mainly post- op for any abdominal surgery, I saw it in a pt. with a colon resection.

Yep, they used them at my clinical site.

Use them all the time on our sections; especially heavier patients and classical incisions.

Sometimes they'll order them for our obese patients that had a c/s. I don't see them much where I work.

At my practicum site, a lot of our post-TAH/BSO patients like to use them after surgery with some Tefla strips between the staples and the binder - feels like it gives them more support. And some patients don't really care either way.

I had surgery with an incision from pubic bone to umbilicus (excision of patent urachus). I was given a belly band, and it made walking much easier. I think more patients should be given a support like that. We encourage patients to walk, and if you haven't had surgery you can't know how uncomfortable it can be, and it doesn't matter what you weigh!

We use binders on every c-section. We order 3 different sizes to make sure everyone has the right size. I have had several repeat c-sections that ask to make sure they get their binder after surgery:yelclap:
