I've applied to a position in L&D and a friend who works on the unit is going to hand deliver my résumé and cover letter to her unit manager for me. I really want my cover letter to stand out and grab the manager a attention! Should I include something about being pro breast feeding (which I honestly am) since the hospital promotes it as well? How about including my own history of having 4 c-sections and multiple hospitalizations? I think my own experiences as a patient can help how am as a nurse on the unit.. Ideas? Opinions?

If your friend is already giving the manager your info, I would leave it as that. That's pretty special right there. I don't think I would use personal information in a resume. Its kind of tacky. Let your title, education and professional experience speak for itself. I hope you get the job!!

Also in a section on your resume that list personal interest, you could provide your personal interest in advocating/pro breast feeding.

Tell them about the pro breast feeding in the interview but tell them it's ultimately a woman's choice so you would never force your opinion on them

Instead of saying you're pro-breast feeding, I would maybe just mention that you have X years of personal breast feeding experience, (maybe mentioning that you've personally dealt with sore nipples, bad latch, plugged ducts, mastitis, or whatever is the case in your situation) so you feel well equipped to help other mothers with breast feeding support and education.

I would not mention your own birth experiences.
