Protective Asepsis?

We're supposed to be watching skills videos to get ready to test out of different things and one of the topics on my sheet says "protective asepsis". I am trying to get a hold of some girls in my class to see what they think this means but I can't find that term in my book or anything. Do you think that it's referring to personal protective equipment? Any input would be great. Thanks!

It is not only personal protective equipment, but things you would do to protect yourself from getting any kind of cooties you will be around, i.e. hand washing, care in the handling of specimens, and probably personal hygiene.

Protective asepsis otherwise known as reverse barrier nursing is the term used to describe the isolation of an immunocompromised patient from an organism prevalent in the area or being carried by other patients. This is to prevent the transmisson to the healthy butimmunocompromised patient. It is an opposite of barrier nursing where the actual carrier is isolated.
