Need responses from nurses who work with intubated/ventilated patients.

Students Student Assist

Published

I just found out I have to administer a survey related to an essay I am writing for my Nursing Research class but, being a student I do not yet know anyone who works with such patients. If you could answer these five questions for me in relationship to oral care for intubated and ventilated patients that would be really helpful!

Answer the following questions related to your ventilated/intubated patients on a scale of 1-5 (1 being completely disagree, 3 being neither agree or disagree, and 5 being completely agree)

  1. I feel confident that I perform effective and helpful oral care on my intubated/ventilated patients.

2) I perform the oral care as it is just another task I am expected to perform

3) I believe that oral care is not performed enough

4) I feel I have a solid understanding on the health related purpose of oral care for my intubated/ventilated patients.

5) I feel that the best oral care practices for intubated/ventilated are not clearly defined where I work.

I perform effective oral care because it is clearly demonstrated by solid evidence to prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia.

3) I believe that oral care is not performed enough

To whatever degree VAP exists within a unit or hospital, that is the degree to which insufficient/ineffective oral care is being provided. In our case, I disagree completely... we are aggressive with our VAP prevention.

4) I feel I have a solid understanding on the health related purpose of oral care for my intubated/ventilated patients.
