Post any mneumonics that have helped with studying for RN/NP classes. Topics can include: neuro, cardiac, DM, thyroid, cranial nerves, meds, labs, etc. Some may not be the most appropriate, but whatever helps you learn! :)

Oh Oh Oh, To, Touch, And, Feel, A, Good, Vein, Ah, Heaven

Cranial nerves:

1. nose

2. eyes to SEE

3, 4, 6 makes your eyes do tricks, eye MOVEMENT 3: Up/Down?/In 4: Down/Inward 6: Outward

5. Put hand infront of face (palmside) wiggle fingers on face, facial sensation

7. Draw a "7" on face, one side will droop with bells palsy, half the face stroked out facial muscles

8. Spinning around like an "8" so I can't hear you, is for hearing and balance

9. Nine, I wanna dine: or Uvula hangs down like a "9." Taste, swallowing

10. Just don't gag, gag reflex

11. 1 on each shoulder, shrug them and turn to each 1, both are 11 Neck turning/shoulder shrug

12. Stick your tongue out, your all done! tongue movement

Suffix of BP Meds and Class

-prils: ACE inhibitors, can cause a bothersome cough

-tan (or -sartan): ARBS, I remember by tan bra (bra backwards is ARB)

-zosin: alpha blocker

-olol: beta blockers

-terol: beta agonists

-pine: Calcium channel blockers

-thiazide: thiazide diuretic

-semide: Loop diuretic

-bital: barbituate

-olone,pred-, pred: corticosteroids, anabolic steroid

-lams and -pams: benzodiazepine, imagine counting sheep

-statin: HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor

-nazole: anti-fungal

-oprazole: Proton pump inhibitor

Can be confused with: pneumonic, [from Greek pneumōn, lung or pneuma, breath]

For DM I remember it with the "cold and clammy needs some candy; hot and dry, sugar's too high" (not a mnemonic, but still :))

I agree! Some mnemonics I've read/heard I would never, ever remember. And the weird stuff I make up probably makes zero sense to a lot of other people but makes total sense to me LOL. That site is great, lots on there! They used to have a great ABG video on there and that was how I learned them...I tried to look it up for a classmate and couldn't find it :( I ended up doing a video reenactment LOL!
