Help! Took a baby break and I've forgotten everything...

I was accepted into a BSN program a year ago and took 5-6 classes such as patho, health assessment, etc. These are the basic nursing classes, and the 'real' classes with clinicals start later. Well, before that could happen I found out I was pregnant. I took a break from nursing school and now I am scheduled to go back this August.

My problem? I feel so unprepared. I think I've forgotten everything. I have a month or so to brush up. If you were in my position, what would you brush up on? Patho? Anatomy? Or would you just start trying to learn the new material (pharma, nursing fundamentals, etc).

Any links to review sites, or other sites to help prepare would be so useful.

Thanks!

I agree. It will come back to you. Keep those patho and assessment notes handy and review content as it comes up in the new courses. If you always ask "why" and look up the answers you will do great.

If it were me I'd probably focus on patho because it's applied to so many different areas (care maps, NCLEX questions, clinical paperwork). Youtube (a source I used extensively in nursing school), has excellent videos on various patho subjects. Many of them are short, concise, and some creative.

Thanks! Any specific users that you found helpful on youtube?

Sure: American Diabetes Association, American Society of Hematology, about.com, AnswersTV, Brightstorm, CDC streaming health, childrensLA, Cleveland Clinic, DoctorNaJeeb, DoctorofMindMD, DrGlassDPM, ed4nurses (very good one), howcast, mayoclinic, medicalgallery, ndsuvirtualcell, nationalMSsociety, nationwidechildrens, preopcom, tamiwa007, TopHospital, UMMCvideos, WellingtonHospital, WestConner, WiFamilymedicine, uyenle117

I'd also like to recommend Jamie Davis's podcasts for nurses, because after he talks briefly about the news in nursing, he always reviews a topic: nursing show tv | Nursing Show Online Radio | Podcast | News, Comment, & Tips for RN, LPN, Student Nurses

while i was in the hospital with my first baby (ten days, huge iatrogenic infection....bleah, yuck, i knew never have a baby in a university hospital soon after july 1 but somehow the conception took an extra month, but at least the baby was perfect and healthy) some of the new grads in postpartum heard i was an icu nurse and came to have me help them study a bit. and i, the hotshot cvicu nurse with stellar gres about to start grad school couldn't remember whether atropine made your heart go faster or slower. feh. used to say my brains were going right out my nipples.

it got better, though. some of it was just like riding a bicycle. if you have your old books, just start reading them at bedtime for an hour. you'll be amazed at how much of it will tool around in your brain while you sleep and your brain will perk up and say "hey! i've seen this before! i know this! here, i put it away over right here! you want it back?"

That's actually a really good idea. Readin your books at bedtime. I always have this problem when I wanna study, I start out reading my books, and then wanna sleep. I think I'll start trying to read some textbook before I go to sleep. Maybe I'll retain more...

OP: I'd brush up on things your not to confident with definetly hit up you tube. Never would have thought of that one either.....
