Hello,

I hope there is somebody out there that can help me with this class assignment for my Human Caring web-based class:

What I need to do is find somebody from another culture and ask then to describe what caring means in their culture and to describe a caring nurse.

I thought this site would be the ideal site since we are from all different areas.

Any help you could provide would be very greatly appreciated.

Absolutely not!

Part of the the assignment for this week is based on theories presented by Leininger and Watson.

The part I was asking for assistance on was if there was somebody from another country who is also in this profession and would be willing to give me a brief description on what they think makes a caring nurse.

I don't want to sound rude, I have never asked anybody to write a paper for me nor would I want to start. In the area where I live there is not much ethnic diversity or I would have went that route...

Let me bump this for you LPNin2007! Good luck...I too live in an area where there is little to no cultural diversity. Your questions are very appropriate.

Caring nurses in US care the same way nurses care in any other country.

Please allow others to offer input on the OP's question about caring, and not sidetrack this discussion. Exploring cultural differences in what is perceived as caring behaviors is an entirely appropriate topic of discussion.

Dear LPN,

I wish I could offer more help; however, I did want you to know that I am an aide working toward my RN. I currently work in a major oncology center that caters to populations from around the globe. The baseline for "care" seems to be the same throughout several cultures; however, the degree of attention and/or other issues may vary. The difficulty with this subject matter is that it is such a subjective issue. The definition of a "caring nurse" may also vary a great deal between individuals from the same culture. In my experience, I have never been able to find a blanket protocol of care for any culture. I have attended several diversity and cultural care seminars that focused on care for the oncology patient and the conclusion always seems to be the same: Individual care is just that - based on the individual. Not the culture they come from. I don't know if that makes sense, but I hope I've helped out some?!?:mad:

Not sure this will help (I'm from the good ole US of A..hehe) but the foreign students in my clinical group have said that the doctors are more "revered" in their country...that the nurse always leaves the room out of respect when the doctor is with the patient.

I've also noticed that they seem to be more serious...I guess I really noticed it when our class pictures were taken. It was a JOB getting some of them to smile. Also, most of the females are going to wear white dresses to pinning instead of pants...seems that's more expected in their culture.

I wanted to thank all of you who assisted me with this project. I am grateful there is a site like this that we can go to when we have this kind of assignment.

It was interesting to get the various responses, but I am glad the assignment is done and submitted so I can truly enjoy my Spring Break.
