Do you understand what a focused assessment is? I just Googled "focused assessment" and found lots of info. Why don't you read that if needed, and then if you really don't know, share your best educated guess. Then we'll jump in.

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

A focused assessment is used to further investigate a patient's complaint as well as to do reassessments based off what was abnormal in previous assessments.

Specializes in Med-Tele; ED; ICU.

From the ED perspective, a focused assessment is one that evaluates systems associated with the patient's chief complaint rather than all body systems.

The appropriate time is upon the initial contact with the patient.
