I'm not sure how to make gay parenting have nursing implications.

Maybe you need a new topic.

There are a number of articles that can be found on gay parenting. The biggest issue that I see is the involvement of both the gay parents with the child's upbringing as well as the involvement of the biological mother (or father if it is a lesbian relationship). I just completed a whole family care plan on a family that I assessed for my last class. The family was a lesbian couple that was raising a daughter. The issues that were most important centered around the child's involvement with the partner as well as the other biological parent. For them, they had a great system worked out and the child really had the best of both worlds.

The other issue that should be explored is about truth in the relationship as well as how the child responds to their friends as well as being made fun of at school. For the child in my care plan, she was blissfully unaware that her mom's were living an alternative lifestyle. For her, she saw it as completely normal. Of course, many people see it as completely normal. But for her friends and their parents, as they discovered that she was being raised by two women, it raised eyebrows and caused some really hurt feelings when certain playdates were canceled. These issues need to be explored and a strategy developed so the child does not become the one with hurt feelings.

Hope this helps a little.
