Erikson, Freud, Maslow and care plans?

Ugh! I knew that my paper was going to get returned to me to fix. I am horrible with the theory part of nursing. I am fine with creating care plans and interventions, but Freud blah. I think he's a quack and frustrated that I even have to spend time studying him. Erikson is a little more tolerable. Maslow actually makes sense, but I do not have a clue how to "apply" their theories to my plan of care? Especially Freud? Anyone got any tips or help with this? I just honestly don't get how to use their theories (other than Maslow). I understand what they mean and with Erikson I can see how perhaps knowing where someone is developmentally might help with assessment, but not sure how I would apply this to my care plans. Links or books or anything would be appreciated.

Ugh....Freud , wasn't he always stoned on Cocaine and speed or was it acid???? As far as Erickson.....all or lives we a judged on our developmental milestones and emotional milestones/maturity, with one needing to be fulfilled before moving on to the next. Maslow says we base what we need first....it's the reason behind the survival instincts. The book suggested to you is a great resource.

the way you apply them is by seeing how they help you focus your assessment and then decide how to set your nursing priorities. this is part of that integrative learning thing, and the critical thinking thing, that they promised you that you'd hear about in nursing school. i know it's not like anything you ever did before, but that's why you're in school, isn't it?

that was actually helpful. i have actually been in a nursing program before 1 year through theory and we didn't have to do this in the adn program. i had to know who they were and what their theories were, but not actually how to use them in care. when my brain is not so tired i am going to sit down and try again to come up with something intelligent to write about this.

Think about a care plan for a child. Are they at their developmental milestones. Have they had any regression? Has this child formed proper attachments? Are their needs being met. Has the child had a constant affection and needs met....is the child able to form attatchments.......
