Hello all.....I just got my results back from my 1st med surge exam.........and I got a 78........The passing grade is 76 and above...I guess I should be happy that I passed, but I wish I would have gotten a better grade...because I dont have much lead way.........I dont want to be worried at the end......oh wel I have 4 exams left........Hopefully I can bring my score up...........I heard it gets harder.....and thats what scares me.

You're right--you did pass so look on the bright side.:wink2:

Also you said it's your 1st medsurg exam. Takes a while to get used to the questions, wording and what they're looking for.

Good luck to you.

Make sure you go over every question you missed on the exam and determine why you missed the correct answer so you can try not to make the same mistakes on future exams.

Congrats. Make sure you get plenty of sleep the night before your exam. No caffeine esp. coffee. Eat a good breakfast, like oatmeal. That seemed to help me. After the test, remember one thing... its over and give yourself a pat on the back.

Good Luck

Congrats your above that average grade! They usually do get harder mostly because I think the material is so new, but the 1st test always seems to be the hardest for people because your not really sure how the teacher is going to ask questions & such. Keep your head up. Remember on the next test you'll have an idea of what to expect just this time it'll be over different content. Goodluck!!

Yeah you did fine! Do lots of NCLEX questions and you will see a trend of what sort of questions that are usually asked. Good luck!

Read the question CAREFULLY. Underline the important words. Cover the answers with your scantron and do not look at the answers. Formulate an answer in your head. Look at the answers and read them CAREFULLY. Remember that most nursing test are written with two distractors and two correct answers. Distractors are just that. They distract you. They are in no way correct, but are there just to be a pain. Eliminate the two distractors and then address the two left. Read the question and ask yourself what the question is really asking. The best response is the one that most directly answers what the question asked. Always remember ABCs: airway, breathing , and circulation. Also, if an issue involves the safety of the pt, it is always your number one priority. Buy the Saunders NCLEX review by Silvesrtrie (sp?). We were required to buy it for second semester and I think it really helped me. The best practice for answering the questions is to answer questions, after you have the knowledge base down pat for the topic. IMHO

Congrats~ we start Med-Surg at the end of this week!

I have been told the current class has an 80% fail rate :+(

Also was told the Mary Ann Hogan Reviews book is great, and to take each system you are studying, write down the info concerning all diseases for the system, and then formulate every Nursing Intervention and scenario you can think of~ it's all about recognizing the S/S and what the nurse can do!!

Good Luck to you~~
