Nursing Shoes

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Hello everyone! I need some advice on nursing shoes for my clinicals! What is the most comfortable shoe you have found so far?

The Mary Jane style is the one I just ordered. That is so great to hear!! Can't wait to try them. For all those who wear these, do they require a breaking in period like Dansko?

For me, not really. The insole DOES mold to your feet after you wear them for a bit, but I found them comfy right away. The insoles are a bit squishier because of the memory foam, not hard like Danskos and the like. I never felt discomfort with them.

Dansko does have lines with softer insoles, but I found that they aren't as good for long periods of standing, whereas the harder ones are. But everyone has different feets, so ymmv.

Dankso clogs! I'm a 25 year old, new nurse from NJ but I was a Nursing assistant for over 5 years before this. When i finally got danskos my back and my feet both thanked me!ha

Also, I finally bought a pair of the Zone by Anywear clogs, and I really like them. They have a bit more support to them than Crocs and other clogs like that - they have a higher heel, more arch support, and the very bottom is harder rubber that makes them more stable while still being extremely light and cushy.

Plus they're cheap.

Now, I keep those, a pair of Crocs Mercy, a pair of Alegria, and a pair of Birkis in my locker at work, so I can wear whatever suits my fancy that day. :)

This is probably a really stupid question, but I'm looking at the Alegria shoes and wondering what kind of socks you wear with them, or do you wear them without socks?? My flat feet are a huge pain and I'd love to find something with a lot of support. Please clue me in on the sock thing, though =)

...and if no socks do your feet sweat in the Alegrias??

I wear black compression socks with mine. I have a black patent pair and a crazy patterned pair with the base color black. I wouldn't go with no socks; yuck! But my feet don't sweat much in them either. No more than in any other shoes.

All of the pictures on their website, even the nursing shoes show no socks. With no socks or thin socks my feet sweat, though - usually I like low, white cotton gym socks but I think that would look ridiculous w/these. They look so comfy, though...

You could easily wear any socks you want. Low socks would be fine but I'm old so I need the added support! And you can find low athletic socks in almost any color.

I wear whatever socks I feel like wearing! I have a pair of knee high compression socks I wear sometimes. I also wear crazy colored/patterned low cut socks with them. Since they're "fun" shoes, I like to wear fun socks with them. Mine are the Mary Janes, so some of my socks show. You could wear plain white or black socks if you don't like the silly sock thing.

I don't wear any shoes to work without socks - don't want my work shoes getting smelly.

I wear low white cotton socks sometimes. They don't look ridiculous - remember that you're going to be wearing them with scrub pants that will cover the tops, not like wearing them with a dress or something.

I wore merrell shoes while I was a student. They were the most comfortable for me, and I went through many shoes until I found these.
