Just wanted to say that it's awesome. Much, much better than the cheaper base models you see floating around. I'm not saying that those are worthless or anything, but this one was worth the money. I see it as an investment for the future. Makes listening to heart, breathing, and bowel sounds much clearer and louder. Nice.. :D

i just bought the littmann master cardiology stethoscope from ebay after debating on which to buy (the cardio iii or the master), but i had heard from several people that the master is the best choice. so i was extremely happy when i saw this stethoscope on ebay for $125 + $10 shipping. i plan to get it engraved at things remembered so it doesn't "grow legs." i can't wait to start my clinicals! :nurse:

Specializes in Tele, Cardiac, CCU, MICU, SICU.

There is really something to be said for the higher end stethoscopes. I work in a CCU and my Littmann (I have a STC Stethoscope) really allows me to hear those S3s, S4s, and murmurs. I left it at home one day and had to borrow a collegue's Classic II SE and I felt LOST. I couldn't hear anything but bilateral breath sounds. For my money, Littmann stethoscopes are the only way to go.

I just got my Littmann Master Cardiology this weekend, and I am very pleased with it! I was amazed at what I could hear that I couldn't hear before. I also learned that I was putting the earpieces in wrong (LOL). I had them backwards. I think that may have had a little to do with not being able to hear, but it would have still been bad with that crappy Prestige SpragueLite. I took it to Things Remembered and they could not engrave it because they said their machine would break the chestpiece. My mom remembered that one of the jewelry places in our town would engrave it, so I am hoping they will be able to. :yeah:

I just purchased my Littman Cardiology III from stethoscopes.com

They will also laser engrave your Littman on the metal tubing near the ear pieces. I like this better than steeles.com because you can choose the font you want on it, of which they have thousands to choose from and you can also choose the size of the font. They also offer a bunch of different pictures/symbols if you would like those also or instead.

I have not yet received it to say if it turned out the way I expected since I just ordered it two days ago. But when I get it I will do another posting.

I was just recently accepted into the nursing program, and am going to buy a stethoscope. I'm either going to get the Master Cardiology or an electronic stethoscope like the Littman 3000. Any opinions on whether or not the electronic is worth the extra money?

I don't think the Littmann 3000 is necessary unless you have a hearing problem. It is probably more recommended for doctors than for nurses. Master Cardiology, IMHO, is a great stethoscope. I've heard way more through it then I have through a cheap Prestige SpragueLite. It is definitely worth the extra money. I bought mine for $125 on eBay, brand new, so you may want to look there. Congrats on your acceptance to the nursing program!!!

I have been following these steth forums ardently and I can't wait but get the Littman Master Cardiology as well. :w00t:

I plan to take my On-The-Job training at the ICU or Telemetry Unit and I know I would need a good stethoscope. I have been using a pretty Littman Classic way back college and I wouldn't mind getting a nother Littman. Maybe pricey:smackingf but worth the investment.

I do hope that it delivers to me what it promises to be.

Thanks for allt he inputs I have read in these forums.

I was told by Things Remembered that they could not engrave it (I would definitely recommend that you engrave it because of the value). I took it to a well-known and respected jeweler, and he's engraving it this weekend for $35. It's a little more than I wanted to pay, but I would much rather pay that then pay for a new stethoscope! :chuckle

So I received my stethoscope from stethoscopes.com!! I actually didn't get the Cardiology III because the color (plum) that I chose was on back order and it wasn't in a shipment that they thought it was going to be in. So instead they offered to give me an upgraded stethoscope for free! They actually told me that the new MagnaFortis was even better than the Cardiology III. So I now have the 2009 Metacardia, you can read about it here: Magna Fortis 2009 Metacardia Stethoscope

I also got it engraved for an extra $17.00. They engrave your name on both the bell and the metal tubing near the ear pieces. I love it!! You can also choose from a lot of different graphics that they have to engrave on the bell.

I was going to attach some pictures of my stethoscope you can see exactly how they do it, but I guess I can't thru allnurses.com. You can email me if you would like me to email them to you.

Thank you for that info! I'll keep that in mind! ANd oh yes, better spend on a pricey engrave :twocents:than pay for a new pricier steth ! Now I wonder if that steth can be insured as well, hey? :clown:
