I think cutsey scrub tops look ridiculous on adult units

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Published

The other day a co-worker strolled in wearing a scrub top festooned with furry, smiling teddy bears. On an adult cardiac floor...REALLY? On various adult units I've seen Looney Tunes, Precious Moments, rainbows and clouds, hearts, and yes...oodles and oodles of teddy bears.

I think these types of scrub tops look ridiculous unless you work in peds, in which case they would all be highly appropriate. On one hand nurses are striving to be taken seriously as professionals, yet with the other hand they are taking juvenile looking scrub tops off the hangar.

I'm a guy and pretty much have to wear solid scrubs if I don't want to look like a freak. But I am not motivated out of jealousy to kvetch about print tops on the ladies. If women want to pizazz up their uniforms, I have seen tons of very tasteful, very professional looking print scrub tops coordinated with solid pants.

If I were director of nursing of the world, I would ban dorky print scrub tops.

Okay...talk amongst yourselves.

My job is too serious as it is. I like wearing what I want. End of story.

I don't know who drudged up this old thread, but I'm glad they did... because this particular post cracked me up!!!

My husband loved the scrub shirts I sewed for him. Three of them had chickens printed on the fabric. The old people he cared for loved the chickens...

OP, you need some chickens on your scrubs. It will give the illusion that you have a sense of humor...

Bahaha! Fomite Scrubs will have to have a chicken print for sure!!

And harpies... ;)

I was always one for solid scrubs. Maybe a printed top, as long as it wasn't anything too "loud".

But, now I am the nurse at an elementary school. The kids love the fun scrub tops I sometimes wear! I have a Mickey Mouse one that always gets a lot of compliments. It's fun to wear "loud" scrubs once in a while! :)

Does anyone know where one would be able to buy a braden scale that is ID badge size? itd be easy to hang them together on my scrubs. Can't remember the dang thing and don't want to carry a full sized one.

Look at other Professionals...Bank Manager, Lead Surgeons, top-notch Lawyers, etc....you get my point. If they walked in with some head-to-toe cartoon mismatched get-up, I personally would think twice about them (on a Professional level) and their abilities. I feel it is extremely unprofessional. I like a put together, polished look pertaining to educated Professionals. Just my opinion of course.

Bank managers don't have to reach up to hang IV bags, bend down to empty foleys, possibly do CPR, or get barfed on. So, they can wear a pants suit and pumps. Prints hide betadine splatter stains.

This. Lead surgeons just wear w/e the hosp offers and don't even talk to the patient. I find sometimes a cute top becomes a convo piece with patients and helps break tension

I don't know about you, however, my demented LOL and LOG love my printed tops. I only have two "pediatric" type prints, but they are a hit.

I personally feel brighter and happier when I wear "brighter and happier" scrubs. I'd rather come to work and take care of my residents feeling good than the drab potato sack feeling I had back when I was required to wear solid khaki colored scrubs.

I will never understand why people care so much about what others wear. As long as a person is clean and well maintained, who gives a crap? Wear what makes you happy and spend more time focusing on your job than your coworkers' uniforms.

Who gives a crap? Unfortunately, in this world, looks matter. We all want to be respected as professionals...yet we wear Looney Toons garb? Leave that for the kiddos to wear, please.

I think solid scrubs, in brighter colors, still look very nice and professional.

I love my prints, but I prefer floral-like prints or butterflies. Nothing that looks "old." Teddy bears and rainbows and everything else you mentioned, though, is kind of ridiculous on adult units!
