Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hi! I recently pass my boards in October and was able to get a job as a home health care nurse. As much as I love the flexibility, I know that my nursing skills will flourish more in a hospital setting. I've been trying to work on my resume - after formatting and everything it's 2 full pages. I was leaving a lot of my undergraduate student organization activity because I didn't have a lot of work experience and wanted to show my leadership qualities through them, but wasn't sure if I should leave them in or take them out. I would greatly appreciate any comments or suggestions! Also, is a cover letter required in getting a hospital job, (specifically in the Metro Detroit area for any of my Michigander nurses out there)? Thanks so much in advance!!!!

Honestly- there is way too much on your resume. I would keep it to pertinent information. The person reading this will not read the whole thing so you need to figure out what will get you the job you want. I would cut out the entire leadership section and anything later than 5-10 yrs ago.

Also- I would stick this job out longer bc you are a brand new nurse. Wait a year, then reevaluate.
