Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I am a registered nurse seeking a pediatrics position in a hospital after working for 8 months in a substance abuse detoxification facility. I was offered my current position with the intention of moving on and have just procrastinated. I never intended to remain in the mental health field and am anxious to move on. I have a great reference within my dream facility but I am just nervous to turn in my resume due to my lack of experience and my limited experience within a completely unrelated field. CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is appreciated!!!

I don't particularly care for objectives. I think that space is best served with relevant experience. Include what you did in clinicals, what you did as part of your internship and any awards you received. I would take the skills part out because you should have all of those skills as a nurse.

If you worked flu shot clinics, volunteered at a senior center or even a school - list that.

List how many patients you are comfortable caring for, what type of medication administration you gave (paper, barcode, pyxis, etc).

In a glance, you want a hiring manager to know you are a capable new nurse. And FYI - I had 3 hiring managers at 3 different places of employment tell me how competitive and impressive my resume is. Believe me - it works ;)
