Anyone out there have info on the school in Arecibo, PR? It is a 24 month program that begins in August.

I'd love to hear anything, thanks.

Yeah, that's the thing about online maps here, they're not exactly worthless, but they're not good either. Many of the GPS systems work good here though, so I would suggest one of those, especially if you're new to the country and don't speak Spanish. They have them for about $100 here at Best Buy.

One reason why online maps aren't so great here is the fact that we include our neighborhood in the address. Our address is 4 lines, not 3 like the states. So, I live on Calle 4 (4th Street) but there are probably about 3 streets named Calle 4 in my town. There could be one in Navarro, one in Celada, one in Rincon, and those are all parts of Gurabo. The towns are broken up into a bunch of different sections, like the ones I just mentioned.

I just looked up my whole address on Google Maps...not even close.

You may be able to take the train to school. I know they have a trolley service, maybe that goes to a train station?

Designer Mommy, you are a wealth of information! Thanks for sharing with us. What towns do you recommend we start looking into? Would be cool to find a nice house with a fenced backyard!

The letter of acceptance? wow, I can understand getting it late but going there when you start to pick it up, that's just.. well.. odd LOL. This whole thing at times seems slightly humorous but I guess it's just the way it is there. good luck to everyone else with this process

Glad I can help! As far as the fenced backyard, pretty much every backyard is fenced in. The majority of the houses here have gates all around them. Here are two pictures from my town so you can see what I mean. Notice the pretty mountains!

As far as towns, the one that I can personally recommend is Caguas. It has a big city feel, but isn't half as expensive as other towns near the metro area. It will probably take you around a half an hour to get to school, give or take a bit depending on traffic. We're in Gurabo, which is farther than Caguas (next town over) and sometimes we can make it in 20 or 25 minutes. And you will be traveling in the opposite direction of the huge traffic jam since you will be going toward San Juan at 4 p.m. and not coming from it. I really think the difference in price is worth the few extra minutes of commuting. And Caguas has 2 malls, Super Wal-Mart, Super K-Mart, Walgreens, and lots of restaurants that will be familiar to you from the states, like IHOP, Denny's Longhorn, Ponderosa, Krispy Kreme, McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Taco Bell, Church's Chicken, Subway, Quizno's, etc. You may be able to find something even cheaper in my town, but we have to travel to Caguas to get to anything good. If I could, I would move there because it's sooooo nice.

So is my map wrong? I can't see where HWY 1 and Interstate 18 meet. Can you tell me the nearest metro or subway station to the school? Maybe that is the best way to find it.

By the way the metro or tren line seams very sort and it looks like there are only 2 lines. Is it used?

Also you mention parking in the garage is 2.00. Is this the case if we are students there? Would we have to pay 2.00 each time we park or are there monthly student parking passes?

You will only see the Econo if you are coming from Guayanabo.

I looked on google, HWY 177 is on it. From San Juan; Condado, Isla Verede....

18 S toward Caugus. At 18 and Hwy 1, 18 turns to 52 S. At 18 and Hwy 1 there is a HUGE building with a water fall thing you can see from the expressway. I think it says Centennial on top. Centennial is a phone carrier here.

Stay 52 S and the NEXT exit is for HWY 177. Take the first exit, west. 2 stop lights go right and school on left.

Parking is $1 after you start and register your car.

The closest train is Cupey stop. There are suppose to be buses from school that pick people up and bring them to school but I do not know how unreliable it is. I would not recommend using them. YOU NEED A CAR here. Period.

I second and third and forth this one. Thanks to you too GradRN2010.

Guys it is nice to see this thread moving along and plenty of posts but can I just bring it to your attention that looking for room mates comes under terms of service and soliciting and not allowed

When I am looking on line physical landmarks mean absolutely nothing and I don't need driving direction as I am just trying to figure out where it is. Thanks for pointing out that Cupey is the closest station. That helps A LOT as Cupey is on the map.

It looks like 1 and 21 meet but I can't see where 1 and 18 meet but pointing out Cupey helps.

And yes I definitely plan to have a car but may want to take the train sometimes if I live near one.

Heck if we get a bunch of roommates we can each take turns car-pooling.

Thanks Silverdragon for pointing this out. I do have to say that I am on over a dozen various bulletin boards and this one is so strictly moderated that you wonder if we still have the first amendment or of this board is going the ways of communism. Sorry a bit dramatic but every time I turn around there is a moderator removing posts

I just don't know why you guys care if we are looking for roommates. I would think this would be encouraged.

Just curious, has anyone received their acceptance letter yet?

I'll be down there in July. Maybe studio, maybe room ate, but I need to live near the beach... :)

Mike just wondering, where do you live now? You really want to live near the beach so it makes me believe you do not live near one now. I currently live 15 minutes from the beach. My high school was a 1/2 mile to the beach and we would walk to the beach at lunch. I love the ocean but I have other priorities in PR.

I second and third and forth this one. Thanks to you too GradRN2010.

And PR Nurse I forgot you. Thanks for all your help as well.

Sorry you guys. I am in jury duty today and kinda going crazy. Definitly bored if you can't tell.

Thanks for the info on location! I was way off. I thought that it was down closer to the Cupey train station. I, like Mike am in dire need of beach time and would love to be able to walk to the beach and have to commute to school.

I'm in San Diego right next to the beach. I surf a lot. :)

Just out of curiosity, are most of the people posting on this board already accepted, or waiting for letters?
