Wow I am going to have to change everything. I have checking accounts with Bank of America, Chase, and Citibank and none of them have a presence in PR. Any suggestions on who to bank with? I can only find local banks. Any large US banks in PR?

My mobile phone provider is Verizon and they don't operate in PR. Any suggestions there? And darn I just got the Motorola Google Droid and LOVE it but it ONLY works with Verizon so that's gotta go.

This move is going to be a little less seamless than anticipated.

Anyone know of an inexpensive place to stay in Rio Piedras for a week while house hunting? It seems like ALL the accommodations are near the beach. I can't find anything that is not near the beach.

Yes, I believe you have to apply to the university first and then talk to the director of the nursing program. The nursing program needs your police record from here, immunization records, CPR certificate (I think!) and I *think* there is a drug test involved, but I'm not sure. So, there are some things you need to do before you get in to the actual nursing program. I'm pretty sure you'll be alright though ;-)
    No Drug Test

FYI Verizon works in Puerto Rico so you can keep your Droid.

Unfortunately they don't have service in PR. They gave me the number of PR based mobile company. They said I would need to talk to them.

Yeah I never thought I would be saying that about Sprint. So I have not done any research on who is there and who is not there. Is AT&T in PR do you know? I was with AT&T for 15 years and when I left I never looked back but if we don't have a lot choices I guess ya could twist my arm into getting an iPhone. ;-)

By the way anyone know what banks are there? I know there is one single Schwab branch which makes me really happy as I have a few accts with them and Schwab customer service is way above everyone else. There customer service is off the charts. Anyway it is not like I will be withdrawing money. Money will be comming out and not going in.

But I still want to have another account that has more branches in PR. Anyone know the best local bank to bank with?

So far the only two networks I have heard of are Sprint and AT&T. I am sure there are local networks but I plan on coming home to work so I would rather not sign a two year contract with someone who is not in the states. As for banks Hmmm?? Didn't even think of that one. Did you find out which color uniforms they use. I am assuming it is white because that is the color they used on there brochure. I would also like to get the I phone too but At&t plans are on crack and there network sucks compared to everyone else. Why have a cool phone if you cant use it.

I see they have Citibank and Banco Popular. I would go with the later because they seem to be everywhere on the island and back in the states.

I guess we have to find out how AT&T is in PR. Can anyone there compare or advise about Sprint and/or AT&T?

No I never heard about the uniforms yet. The students may be busy with finals and stuff.

Yeah banks are important. I think I will just stick with Schwab since they have a branch. All their accounts are free and I swear no other bank has customer service that comes any where near Schawb. They go out of their way and have phone support 24/7 and ALL their call centers are in the western world. Not all in the states but in the states, Canada, and Europe. Also, not that others care, but they are a local San Francisco company and I try hard to do business with as many local companies as possible.

At&t worked better for me in PR than it did back home.

Nope no Citibank. They used to at some point but there is no Citibank presence there now. I was in the branch today and I had the agent double check.

Cell phones and banks are things I started thinking about randomly a couple weeks ago. What are other things we have to think about? I want to have everything covered.

By the way does everyone realize that school starts August 2nd? That is only 10 weeks away. 10 weeks will come and go with the blink of an eye.

Oh health insurance. Any current students have info on the school health plan?
