I have a question, why is a Tylenol suppository referred to as APAP suppository? Saw this for the first time at work lastnight and was curious. Thanks.

See? It doesn't take much brain power to do a quick search. It does, on the other hand, take a lot of laziness to post a question on a message board for other people to do the leg work for you.

In addition, I'm glad you've learned the definitions of sarcasm and condescending. May these basic definitions of common words most people understand by the age of 12 enrich your life.

What's there to teach? It's a basic definition that could be found quickly in any number of resources probably within yards of where this nurse was standing when she became curious about an abbreviation she did not know the origin of.

When I'm curious about something I look it up, read about it, etc. If the information I find is confusion or conflicting, I seek clarification.

Then again, I guess that's a result of many years of higher education, a sense of independence, and confidence that I have the ability to interpret and integrate things I read into my working body of knowledge.

Others, it seems, skip the leg work that will increase the likelihood of long-term retention of knowledge and just want someone else to look it up for them. I obliged and reported the time it took out of my evening to find and relay the requested information. This apparently cause your panties to twist. I imagine it is quite uncomfortable.

Wow...a lot of energy went into totally berating someone for asking a simple question. I would bet that more than half of the questions asked here can be Googled in 30 seconds or less. Who cares? Either answer the question or move on...no need to be a stinkyface!

OP~ Hopefully you received clarification of your question. Without the easily googled questions or topics, and people willing to share their experiences or knowledge, there wouldn't be much of a forum. What's interpreted as lazy or foolish to one person, may not stand true for the next. We can't all be the same in what we know or do. ;)

an purpose is to be supportive, not divisive....please pass by instead of snarky reply if unable to answer simple question.

apap is abbreviation for acetaminophen derived from it's chemical name: n-acetyl-p-aminophenol

while asa is used for asprin, chemical name: acetylsalicylic acid.

because Tylenol is a Brand Name , not the Generic name which depending where in the world you are will be Paracetamol or Acetaminophen.

you need to know both the generic and brand names of the drugs you commonly administer to prevent drug errors.

it still amazes me that the US prescribes by Brand name rather than the practice of the civilised world to prescribe by generic names even if the brand name drug is supplied.

at my workplace there is one drug which can be prescribed by Brand name and won't be corrected by pharmacy and that's Oxycontin / Oxynorm to distinguish between the MR and immediate release presentations of Oxycodone
