ULL- RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

I came here for advice. I've been out of school the past 10 years and finally decided to get my BSN since my hospital is magnet they are starting to ask for it.

Anyways, I have 2 kids, and work full time. Not making excuses but I need advice from those who have been to or are in the university of louisiana at lafayette RN-BSN program.

I just started the program this semester, and I am crying as I am writing this, because I failed the first quiz. To me it was so difficult. I read all the chapters, and I made my own notes and went over my notes but still I did not make a decent grade.

I feel like such a failure and feel like giving up on the program and dropping out even though I am gonna lose my money.

I don't know how else to study.

I have taken math classes online in the past and did ok. But this nursing theory I find it so difficult and not as clear.

If anyone can give me some information about how to study please I would greatly appreciate it.

Ok so basically I am quitting.

i feel that ULL was too difficult for me. The online quizzes are a killer. And the online discussion -- the discussion I got an extremely low grade.

how am I supposed to pass?!?

i don't think online is for me.

unfortunately I will have to go to a for-profit school and just finish my desperately wanted and needed BSN there and just take my time going. their online program has no quizzes and mostly writing.

Brenda1234,

Don't look at it as quitting. You are just finding something that fits you better. I started at a different school that just did not work for me. Do your research though, there are not-for-profit schools that would probably fit you and not cost an arm, and both legs.

Thanks Shuggipie,

i appreciate the positive comments. I don't know what happened to me. I just got overwhelmed.

i did tons of research before ULL & ULL is awesome price wise, it is organized and thorough on what they expect of you in regards to assignments, quizzes and discussions.

A lot of other public state schools require some type of on-campus visit. And ULL does not at all. I really do think that it's a great option $$ wise for an online education.

I am probably just a different type of learner and need more time when doing any type of class work

Shuggypie- first CONGRATS on your BSN!! I was trying to find any posts you did on ULL capstone. Please email me directly if you like at [email protected]. I'm starting ULL in session 5. Thanks!

Any updates? How did this course end overall?

Watching!! I start in January 2015

Hi, I am currently on my last course of the program, the Capstone. Overall, this is a great program. It worked well for me as a full time nurse and mother of two. I highly recommend it.

I will add to this, but I saw another thread singing their praises. I am in my second week and I am not happy. When I researched BSN programs, I thought this one was reasonably priced and flexible. They have since raised their tuition. Worse, they will only accept a certain number of credits forcing you to take all of theirs, you WILL pay $9500. They are requiring I take an art course even though I have Humanities courses and language... none of which they gave me credit for.

There is no instruction. The professor slaps a few power point presentations on the website that came from the book and do nothing but outline the chapters. She is curt with all the discussion forums and students are asking the same questions over and over because she doesn't answer them clearly. She answers in a manner that makes one feel like an idiot, but I find it hard to believe we are all idiots. Writing assignments are ambiguous and the parameters are unrealistic. She forgot to attend her own live discussion. She failed to release access to quiz material once the quiz is complete and yet told me to read over the answers (which she did not set up for review).

The website is not user friendly. You can not call the financial aid office, you can only email, and they communicate in the briefest of terms giving only minimal information --in fact, my last question was replied to without a specific answer.

I am sorry I enrolled. There are so many programs out there. I do not recommend this one at all. Check with your employer to see if they have a relationship with an institution. Good luck.
