hi everyone,

i know it has been a while since my last post. i was unable to complete my april cpne date due to "issues" but was lucky enough to get this weekend june 22-24. i went to saint peters in albany, new york. the ca was great and the ce's were awesome. there were five of us on friday but by this morning it was only two of us, dont know if the other student was successful, but i will tell you that in talking to my fellow student's i knew they were not prepared for this exam. one student questioned the ce as to why she had to do each assessment separately as opposed to the whole body in one shot??!! what i learned is that this exam is not to test your nursing ability, it tests your ability to follow directions and act a part. any way;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

the labs were straight forward just like in the video, same wound, no tricks and the calculations were really easy. pcs1 peds replacement a 67y fem with r/o small bowel obstruction and 10 day old left tkr, seems she was in rehab for the knee and developed some intestinal problems but they had since resolved. aoc; abd assess, comfort, meds, and musculoskeletal left knee. i+o was no problem just marked my cup and measured at end and had a hat in the bathroom which she kindly used when i ambulated her. used acute pain because she was rating her pain at a 5 on 0-10 scale and impaired mobility- passed;

pcs 2 78 y male with r/o hip fracture and dementia aoc- resp assess, abd assess, comfort. i+o was not a problem he was using the urinal for me, ambulated to nurses station and back , but hey no pain! which ofcourse threw my pain dx out the window, but he was very confused and needed re-orientation many times so, i chose risk for injury related to dementia/ passed

pcs 3 54 y fem you guessed it right total knee- aoc- periphero-vascular lower extremities, meds, pt. teaching. chose pain and some other dumb thing in planning, guess what she had pain at only a 1 during most of my pcs, after ambulaating a bit she said it was a little more uncomfortable now at a 2, ran right out and called staff nurse to medicate with prn med// risk for acute pain--passed

i tackled my cpne in a very different way, i was afraid that i would spend all my free time studying and freaking out, bubble baths and music won't help me, so i brought my entire family with me, rented a min-van and packed up my three kids and my husband" oh yea im a girl" and gotta tell you the distraction was very helpful i even got to sleep at night cuz i was exhausted, lots of pool time with the kiddies!!

anyway, i am looking forward to sleeping in my bed tonight and to tackle my next adventure, my ncclex!! good luck to all/ and thanks for everything.

Congratulations, Chris! I was wondering how you did. I also attended Lynn's workshop. It was pretty helpful? I sent in my app a few weeks ago and I was notified that it was complete and I have yet to receive a date.
