Nursing Students Online Learning

:balloons: hello everyone. i am new to your forum. i have been an lpn in tennessee for 17 years. the first 16 were spent in pediatric neurology and now i am in home health. now that my children are almost grown, i am wanting to get my rn. my home health job is full time plus. there is just no way to attend classes. i am looking to find a reputable lpn to rn program online. on the internet, i continue to get directed to programs that are rn to bsn only, eventhough i am typing in lpn to rn. i would like a career mobility type program that would honor some of my prior lpn classes and be able to skip some of the rn requirements. any suggestions?

Before you buy anything from these "College Network" type companies, check with the Colleges directly first. You will find that the preparation costs are much less if you buy study materials directly from the college you are considering.First of all, College Network tried to sell me a course I didnt' need for my degree. It was in the same category that I was lacking in (humanities) but when I went to Excelsior's website, I found that one particular humanity course was required and it was not the one they were trying to sell me. In addition, they suggested taking Microbiology first--good advice but nothing I couldn't have figured out by myself--the price for their microbiology preparation was $415. I ended up gettting the preparation from I Study Smart for about $320. After I bought the materials from them, I found that if I had registered with Excelsior directly and got the materials from their bookstore, it would have been under $250. Indiana State University does have a good program but it is only for LPN to BSN if what College Network told me is true.Good luck in whateever you decide

Hello,

And good luck :-)

I found this site, http://www.lpn-to-rn.com it does mention the college network, it also gives info about Uni of Phoenix.

Hope it helps -)

I also live in Tennessee (Chatt.). I am currently using the RUE directed study guide to complete my RN. I will get my degree through Excelsior College. This is totally independent study and you take your tests locally at a testing center. I took my first test yesterday and got a B. You can also go straight through excelsior without using other study guides. Hope this helps you.

I am currently enrolled with excelsior and I love it. I have taken 4 courses so far 3A's and a B. I love that I can pay as I go and that I can go at my own pace. In the end it will cost me much less than my local college would for their LPN to RN program. Good luck in what you do.

I am currently doing my pre-requisets for LPN, but I am already planning for future and considering doing my RN on-line. The university where I attend right now is way too expensive $220.00 per credit and they only offer RN-BSN or masters and offer hardly any credit for your LPN classes.

Anyway for people who take the on-line classes. How and where do you do your clinicals and if I were to take couple classes at the university I attend to (such as microbiology) do they give you credit for that? Thanks!

Hi...I don't know of any LPN to RN on-line programs either but I wondered if your state education department has any way you could gain credit through challenge exams. New York has these for the LPN's who come out of the high school LPN programs where the courses do not have college credit. Maybe then you could apply to an on-line school with an RN program with some "college credits" already in hand. Keep in touch and let us know how you make out with this.

Have you looked into Excelsior College?
