excelsior cost

Hi I'm trying to get up the nerve to do Excelsior's lpn to rn program. I was wondering if I have all my general education classes done how much will is cost approx? It seems like a lot of fees.

Haven't kept up with the costs, but it will be well worth becoming a RN so you can advance.

I'm in the middle of the Excelsior program. If you have all the pre reqs... You will need to complete 7 Nursing Concepts exams. The current rate is $205 per exam. The Application fee is $65, Enrollment $875, CPNE $1595 (I think), and I think the Graduation fee is about $450. There are a bunch of companies who will want you to purchase their study materials. Go to Ebay and get the same things for cheaper. There are alot of study groups on yahoo. You may not need the study guides.

For me, the Excelsior program is the way to go because I can still work full time while earning my RN. Go for it!!!!

EC grad 2003 here. Best decision I ever made.

The biggest expense is when people get involved with those publishing companies for their "study guides."

I know people who swear by some of them such as Rue, but for me, I only used a Mosby NCLEX review book for the 7 exams, I got 2 "C"'s on 2 of the exams that I never studied for, just walked in and took, the rest that I studied for were A's and B's. And I was not an "A" student in LPN school!

I had to put a lot of my EC fees on credit cards but I'm reaping the benefits of it now.

I was sick of being an LPN and only having Med/Surg or LTC options, now I have more choices.

Go for it, I'm only upset with myself because I didn't finish it sooner.

The prices mentioned sound accurate currently. What I like about the program is that I can pay as I go for the most part. I really like that I won't be left with a student loan like I was for my LPN. Which by the way is at the moment keeping me unemployed as MD does not want me too work LTC. As an LPN that really limits me. Really gotta get that RN.

MD doesn't want you working LTC? Where do they expect you to work? And who do they want working LTC?

Hi Kelly.. I live in Illinois and The Illinois Nurses Association said that I have to practice as a RN in a hospital setting before I can apply for Il. license .... this did not discourage me going Excelsior way ..I only live 30 miles from the Illinois border so that is no problem for me ..I would recommend Excelsior any day .... when I decided to do this I had to do it all the pre-req's and the NC#1-7 ..I had a total of 15 exams and I am down to 4 exams plus CPNE"S ...and yes I did go through a publishing agency just so I had it all together and didn't have to find all the info/books .....Veda

hi i am curious which 2 tests you didn't study for and passed? ive been ready to test for a while and just nervous as to what to expect. how long had u been an lpn when u took both of the tests? i may use those as my "jump in feet first test:p ". i know once i sart, there will be no stopping me.:)
