Another $$ question (re: CPNE)

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Used to be able to find any info I wanted on the excelsior site -- am I the only one finding it harder to get the gritty details online?

I was wondering -- though I guess I can guess the answer -- about payment for the CPNE. Do you have to pay for the whole thing upfront when you register for it -- or just some time before the actual date? Seems with a 3-4 month or longer wait there'd be some accommodation there.

My 'problem' is that while I *think* I can finish my content exams quickly (taking 2 tomorrow I might re-assess my abilities at that time) I won't have the money for the CPNE til tax refund comes, usually about the 1st week in February. That would put me -- in June, not graduating til after all the graduate nursing jobs are filled up. On the other hand if I didn't have to find all of it upfront I am hoping I'll be eligible around about the beginning of October, enabling me to pull it all together before the summer. I am guessing I'll just have to live with it but I'm hoping someone will tell me there are actually payment options for the CPNE other than all upfront several months ahead of taking the exam...

Hi! I just received my CPNE application and turned it back in last week. You have the option to pay $500.00 and the rest 15 days prior to the CPNE. I used this option. The wait for the CPNE is longer than 3-4 months. Most of the testing sites are booking into January and February already. I called all of the testing centers to see where they are booking--the shortest wait as of last week was long beach booking for December/early January. You can get put on cancel lists once you apply for CPNE that might enable you to finish quicker. Hope this helps.

You can do the Pay-Your-Way Plan for the CPNE (in 4 installments) just like the registration fee. You'll get a Pay-Your-Way financing brocure with all the details in the mail with your CPNE packet. Just make sure it's all paid 2 weeks prior to your test date.

The latest I had read it looked like it was just over 4 months, that was someone I was talking to fairly recently (in the past 3 weeks). I've seen over the past couple years it varying depending on the particular ebb and flow of students as well -- sometimes it seems longer, sometimes actually shorter. $500 I can handle, and it looks like that will put me testing in March or April anyway which is what I am looking for (instead of June or later!).

Laura,

I did not get a pay your way for the CPNE brochure. The info I got with my CPNE packet stated the only payment plan was to pay in full or pay $500.00 down to get a date and the rest due 15 days prior to testing. I will have to call and ask about this one--that would make it nice.

I also paid the $500 when I sent in my application....I will be paying the last $350 on tomorrow. My test date is Sept 24-26 in Columbus. There was no Pay plan included in my application....I've just paid as I got it knowing that it had to be paid before the 15 days prior to my scheduled time.

Good Luck in your studies!!

Hmmm...I wonder if they stopped doing the Pay-Your-Way plan for the CPNE? I can't find it in the publications now. Call a CPNE advisor or someone in fiscal services and ask them. It was available when I did the CPNE in May, because I paid that way.
