Positive background check, Moving to Texas

I understand how you feel. I live in Illinois and the job market here is poor. I was hired by a hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, applied for my license upon being offered the position, paid the $200.00 non refundable and sent in all required paperwork. Me and my family are about to leave on Wednesday for relocation down there when I received a letter in the mail stating that I had a positive background check that resulted in something that was dismissed in 1990. I am unable to get ahold of the Orange County Courthouse to find this record and of course I do not have the case number, my previous attorney no longer has my files, everything ten years old and older have been destroyed (stupid on his part). I have spent over two thousand dollars securing a place for me and my family to live while working down there. My temporary license will expire at the end of November and I will be without a job as a nurse and can't afford to move back to Illinois.By the time they get my letter of documentation, I will already be in Texas. Should I go or should I just stay in Illinois? Someone please help me figure this out.

Do you know what the "something" that turned up is? I assume that it is the Tx BON who contacted you? If so, I would suggest that you contact them to obtain the details. Hopefully, if that "something" was a one-shot deal, with no other problems since then - you should be OK.

Tx seems to be much more stringent than other states - and this can result in increased time needed to process these sorts of issues. You should probably notify your new employer as soon as you have sufficient details. I am sure they will work something out for you.

On the plus side, I am sure you will love Corpus - it's a really neat place to live.
