Obtaining RN license with revoked license from another agency (eg: pharmacy board)...

Nurses Criminal

Published

Does anyone know of anyone who has obtained a nursing license with a revoked license from another state board agency (such as pharmacy, medical, etc.)? The application to sit for the exam asks if you hold another license from any state agency that is revoked, etc. I don't want to go to nursing school if I won't be able to get my license. I called the BON and of course they said it was on a case by case basis. If anyone has ever heard of anyone with this situation, please help! Thanks!

P.S. I currently have no criminal record at all (state or FBI), as it was expunged 15 years ago. The license was revoked 15 years ago also. I was young and dumb back then. I have been in no trouble since. Not even traffic violations.

If it was expunged, was 15 years ago, nothing serious like assault, murder, rape etc... and you have not been in trouble since, you should be fine. Seriously, just be honest on the application, sure you will have to jump through a few loops, but it should work out.

You have a permanent criminal record that any governmental agency can verfiy. However, go to your state BON, look at the application to apply for a license- it will either tell you you must list expunged convictions, or it won't. If not, then you don't have to list your record. If you do, THEN, after you graduate and apply, then it will handled on a case by case basis- a risk, based on what you did wrong. An option is to move to state in which the BON does NOT require you to list expunged convictions, and go to school there. So far, the only state I know of is RI, that the BON does NOT require you to list expunged convictions. (Not legal advice- it's just a matter of fact way to see what each state's BON applications require).

Same thing for the other revoked license- read the BON's language carefully on the applications. If it doesn't specify a prior nursing license, or 'other' license, then they need to clarify their language, so contact them in an official way to ask directly what license the applications are talking about?
