Letter to BON

For those of you who had to write a letter to the BON for your license, did you type it or hand write it? I was thinking hand writing it would be more personal, but I don't know if they prefer it to be typed. Also, how much information did you tell them? Did you just make it short and simple or go into details? I'm at a loss as to how to do it. (I'm in Tennessee).

Hand write it. Somewhere in the application process it will say a hand written letter explaining events that led to blah blah blah. Also put it on nice stationary. Second, only state facts. Do not go into great detail about this that and the other, just keep it simple and to the point. Example... On (date of incident) I was.......... Remember state only facts and not your opinion or how you felt about the situation. The BON does not care how you felt or your opinion they only want to know who, what, where, when, and why. End the letter with the outcome. What was the end result after all was said and done. Did you complete jail time, probation, community service...whatever it was let them know that you complied with any request that were asked of you. I would be able to better help you if I knew why you were having to write a letter. Either way, I hope this helps.

Thanks so much! I have 2 convictions from over 7 years ago, one for shoplifting and one for a bad check. They are both very long stories, but they both come down to making 2 stupid mistakes. I was placed on probation for a year and a half, and took drug tests every month of my probation, all of which were clean. I paid all restitution and fines. I learned my lesson and I have not been in any trouble since. I am just praying that they let me get my license. I also obtained medical assistant training and worked as an MA for many years after the convictions, so I'm hoping that will be in my favor as well.
