Going back to school for RN in IPN

I am a LPN (graduation in 2008). I developed a prescription drug problem after 4 miscarriages. I was fired and arrested with 2 charges pending for obtaining a controlled substance by fraud. According to my attorney I am getting pre-trial intervention. After 1 year of that all charges will be dropped and I can get arrest expunged. I am in IPN with a 1 year narcotic key restriction and 5 year contract. I cannot find a job at all. The interviews (6 in last month) I have been on have told me "thanks for being honest but it's too much of a liability". So I'm looking at going back to school for my RN at FCU in Bradenton. How will my IPN involvement and narc restriction affect my schooling? I'm also confused about the fact that if I had never self-reported to IPN then how would the BON find out about by arrest since it will be expunged in 1 year. I have a 5 year contract with IPN, far longer than my PTI probation will last. I have sent my IPN contract back, but I have not been able to send the $50 check because I am broke. Does that mean my contract is not in effect? Playing devil's avocate---if I went to RN school---did not participate in IPN---graduated 2 years from now and took my RN board after my record of arrest/charges have been expunged would the BON some how be able to find out about my isses?

Hello and welcome to allnurses.com.

if I went to RN school---did not participate in IPN---graduated 2 years from now and took my RN board after my record of arrest/charges have been expunged would the BON some how be able to find out about my isses?

Yes, for the BON will ask you have you "ever been arrested/charged/convicted". It doesn't matter if expunged or not. You must be honest in answering. Then, they will consider your case.

So, in saying this, you will have to pose your questions to your BON for we cannot offer any other advice.

Good luck.
