DWI and Endorsement

Nurses Criminal

Published

Hi all. I'm new to this site. I came to Texas in December 2012 to start a job using my compact license. After just a few days I got arrested for a DWI even though I was in a parked car. I ended up pleading guilty to that charge because I agreed to a BAC and I couldn't prove that I didn't have the intention to drive. The problem is that 3 weeks later I was involved in a car accident that was not my fault. I was taken to the hospital and the officer saw my previous arrest and therefore was "suspicious" so he filed a DWI with no evidence. Hospital records later proved my innocence and the charges were dismissed. Now a year and a half later, I have to apply for my RN via endorsement and I am scared to death that they will deny me. I have an awesome job here and I am the sole provider for my 3 children

Also, I have been a RN for 20 years and an APRN for 14 years.

Any advice??????

I agree--you need to lawyer up, especially if the BON wants to have a chat with you about this. Do NOT face the BON without one at your side as the BON is NOT the nurse's friend--their focus is on the public's safety, not on cutting a single-parent nurse a break. You need someone involved whose sole focus is you and your well-being...hence the attorney.

If you need a lawyer versed in dealing with BONs, you can find one here:
