disaplinary action for chemical addiction

Nurses Criminal

Published

My best friend and I have been LPNs for 11 years and we actually met in nursing school. We also work in the same nursing home. Recently we had an investigation for narcotics missing, to my much surprise and heartache it was her. When was administering narcotics she would sign for 2 and give one to the resident and keep one for herself. She was immediately terminated and the police were called. She was arrested for a misdemeanor 2 (which I am not sure what that is). She is now in a rehab for her chemical addiction. Does anybody know in the state of PA what the disciplinary actions usually are? This is her first offense. Does anybody have any similar experiences or no somebody that went thru this? I am hoping that the State only suspends her license for a temporary period and does not take them away from her for good. I am just looking for any information on this. She made a huge costly mistake but she is still my best friend. Thanks!

To be honest, the state of PA and the PA BON are the best sources for these answers. They usually consider these cases on an individual basis, so there's no cookie-cutter answer to cover all scenarios.

I'm glad your friend is getting help and I wish her the best in her recovery.
