Nurses Criminal

Published

Hi, I am a nursing student in Northern California and I am currently trying to get a CNA license so that I can work while I'm in school. I was pretty wild when I was younger and I managed to get 2 simple possession of Marijuana charges a paraphernalia charge and one drinking under age from 18 to 20yrs old. The last arrest was in 1999 in the state of Tennessee. I haven't been in trouble since.

Recently when I put in the request to take the challenge exam for the CNA i was honest when they asked me if I have ever been convicted of a crime. Now they want me to send in all of my conviction dates and background check from Tennessee. I've done that and I mailed it in today. Based on what I've told you what do you think the chances are that they would deny my license? Also could these prior charges effect my ability to get a job when I graduate next may? Would they effect my ability to get a nursing license?

It can effect your ability to get a nursing license. I hired a lawyer before I graduated and he helped me through the process, be prepared to wait longer than others in your class. Everyone in my class received their ATT's in July, and I still have not heard anything from the Board. I expected it but it is still difficult. If it shows on your background check then it can also cause problems when looking for employment.
