background checks/hospital policies

Nurses Criminal

I recently graduated nursing school and applied for licensure. I have a criminal background with 4 previous arrests which i was required to explain to the florida BON prior to receiving ATT. Since being approved i applied for the STARN program at a local HCA hospital. I just found out i got the job and am beginning the preemployment process with the hospital now. Im curious as to if my background DUI, petit theft (withheld adjudication), DWLS, and Criminal mischief (withheld adjudication) will prevent me from being hired once they run my background check. Does anyone have any insight into this topic? im freaking out!

I only submitted my resume because during nursing school I did my externship there so the HR lady asked me for my resume and I went to the two interviews and was offered the job last Friday. I want to be upfront and honest with them as I feel that my past mistakes play a huge part of where I'm at today. I was told by student services at my college not to disclose any information unless asked, just looking for another perspective.

Ah. Hm. I'm not sure. I've never seen a hospital not ask at some point. I agree that if they don't ask, you shouldn't disclose. Did they ask you to consent to a background check?

Yea they asked me to today.....hence my anxiety😬 Guess only time will tell! Fingers crossed!

If it were me, I'd inform them at the time they asked me to sign a background check. They're going to find out either way at that point.

I'd tell them upfront, that way it doesn't look like you're trying to hide anything. Plus, if it were me, it would bring my stress level down. If you have a criminal record, it seems inevitable that it will surface in a background check.

I'd rather address something possibly negative head-on and have the chance to explain myself.
