Background check statement

I need some help, I had a misdemeanor, that I plead nolo contento to. It was fight between my boyfriend and I. No one went to jail, but I had to go to court and have a "disorderly conduct/fighting", with a $250.00 fine that I had to pay. My question is that someone told me that when I send in my statement to the BON that I should have the help of an attorney. Should I go to a family lawyer, or someone that is a "nurse/lawyer", who, would be the one to help me the most? Are the nurse/lawyer fighting for you or the BON?....Also do those "background searches" on the Internet help, or not really, they are not as in debt as the FBI? I'm starting my last semester of RN school.

Hi,

I was told when I submitted my application to the BON to be honest about the DUI I got 26 years ago, which is what I did. I also enclosed a letter of explanation with my application. I spoke with a woman from the BON who stated I might not even HAVE to have a letter of disposition, that it would just depend on what the board said when they reviewed my application. I sure hope that is the case since the court system obviously isn't interest in helping me. I was just trying to get all my ducks in a row in the event it was indeed required. Maybe you can call the BON in whatever state you are in and get some more information from them.

Good luck to you and have a great day.

I wonder if you had used an attorney, if things might have moved faster?..I sure hope and pray that you get to sit for the NCLEX, and that things go smoothly. I get tired of all this red tape....goodness
I can see if we were "ax murderers or cheated someone horribly on their death bed", but after years of good behavior, and also the lack of USA nurses....seems someone would be on our side ........I can't find a nurse attorney down here for help, they only live 800 miles away, but someone suggested using the TAANA or something like that....please keep me posted. I may never become a either if I can't get help.

I sure wish that someone that has used an attorney, or someone could point me in the right direction, that has experience in this. I'm scared my "duckies" are going to sink!!!.....I'm still praying for your Aug 19th day!

Actually Lovenox I have mentioned the same thing to my husband... wondering if I should contact an attorney to see if I can get my disposition letter. I think it is ridiculous since the DUI I got was 26 years ago when I was just 18. This was the only legal issue I have ever had in my entire life. I am now 44-years-old, have raised two great kids, and the grandmother of two!! (I actually posted about my situation originally on this board under "trying to be honest" if you care to read it).

I think I am just going to wait and see what the BON requires before I go to that expense. I don't believe I am going to know anything else until I have tested for Nclex though.. So until then I am just trying to be patient, which is not easy for me lol.

Have a great day and good luck to you also!
