RN Residency Programs

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hello! I'm a new grad BSN and very eager to land my first job as a nurse. I am in the process of applying to RN residencies all over the country. I live in NJ now. Unfortunately, the nursing program I completed did not offer a capstone or preceptorship, which seems to be the norm at many other schools. I went through an accelerated program, where we were discouraged from working due to the intense nature of the program. Unfortunately, the only experience I have in health care are my clinical rotations. I really only have two things going for me at this point: I have a high GPA and a solid history in customer service. Has anyone had any luck getting into a residency under similar circumstances?

Hello,

My schooling was not similar to yours (we had Capstone), but I am currently in a nurse residency program at LVHN in PA. Trust me when I say this, you do not want to go into a residency program. You just do the research that the hospital wants for me at a cheaper rate and usually do the work without being paid, the extra "education" sessions are mainly fluff and don't help you be a better nurse, and they tie you down and ensure that you can't leave your job for at least a year even if you hate it (like me). Maybe it's better elsewhere, but definitely don't apply to this one.
