Preparation for job in college clinic

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

So, I don't have this job yet but I put in an application and believe I do have a chance at it given my experience. I recently applied for a job at the Academic Health Center at a local university. I have experience working with the population given that I am currently a public health nurse for the local County government.

Recently, before I saw this posting, I was speaking with a woman at a training who was once a nurse at another college's health center. The woman mentioned that while there she sometimes had situations where she did have to handle emergencies. Public Health was the first area of the nursing field that I went to after nursing school and since then I haven't had much experience in the way of responding to an emergency situation. The most I've seen is a patient that fainted during a blood draw.

Is there anyone who worked as a nurse in a college clinic that could give some advice as to how to prepare for that type of environment in the off chance that I do get this job? Even if I don't, I would still feel that my work experience definitely lends itself as a qualification for such a job and it would never hurt to have this information regardless.

I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks!
