PLEASE.. advice on new RN grad in NYC?!?!

I'm going to try to make this short & sweet.

I'm looking for advice on getting my FIRST nursing job in NYC.

My background: I'm graduating from an ADN program (I know most hospts prefer BSN now). However, I do have a BA degree, fantastic work experience, great letters of reccomendation, and I've been working as a tech for over a year. I also have a great personality and attitude. I plan on bridging to an NP program... I only have one class to take to make me elidgible.

I'm not worried about getting a job as a new grad. I know that I will be hired where I'm working, which is a PHENOMENAL hospital. I'm working in general pediatrics as a tech, hoping to get a job in the PICU. Lucikly my hospital hires new grads in their ICU's. My backup plan is to get a job here, in the PICU or my floor, work for a year (year & a half the most!) and try to travel or get a job in the city. However, I'm aching to get to the city as soon as June comes.

Does anyone have any leads on hospitals that hire new grads, nurse residency programs, nurse recruiters, nursing job fairs... ANYTHING that could help me get my first nursing job in NYC? Ideally, Manhattan or Brooklyn. I've been looking at the city and private hospitals. I am well aware that I will not get into the NY Presbyterian residency program.

Congratulations on becoming a nurse! Unfortunately, the job market is pretty tough for new grad nurses in NYC. The only hospital in Manhattan that i know that may hire new grads from time to time is Mount Sinai but it's very difficult to get in there. I know Montefiore Hospital just hired a bunch of new grads late last year but that's in the Bronx. North shore Hospital may also hire new grads sometimes but that's in Nassau County. Be thankful you have a back up plan since i know some new grads in NYC that hasn't found a job in over a year. Anyway, goodluck with your search! :)

I volunteered at NY Methodist on the peds floor and the NICU and had clinicals at Maimonides on the peds floor and both places have hired new grads within the past 2 years. Good luck!

Check out NYP, HSS (OR, PACU and inpatient residencies), Mt. Sinai, not sure if NYHQ still does, NSLIJ (Long Island) has a critical care and ER Residency... These are just a few off the top of my head that have residencies. My focus was on hospitals that have residency programs so I'm not sure which hospitals are likely/open to hiring new gradds (hopefully some other members can help you with that).

You can ask your professors if they know of any as well

The residency I got into hires every 6 months, I think NYP has one that coincides with the end of each semester (January, May, August)
