It must be the resume

I have been reading lots of posts searching for how long it takes to get a nursing job and where to apply. I've come to the conclusion that it must be the resume.

Some nurses seem to only have to apply to1-5 places and get call backs and offers from each while other nurses seem to apply to 50 plus (or 100s) places and get nothing but rejection.

Does anyone have good advice about creating a GREAT resume?

Your resume is only one piece of the puzzle. In my experience, connections are the far more important piece. I literally cannot think of one person who was hired during my 5 years in the hospital who didn't have some sort of inside connection to the hospital/floor.

Resumes are important, but so is who you know...make sure you include a summary statement about yourself, using nice adjectives and incorporating any past professional history...also bullet your clinical experience and describe # of hours in each specialty/preceptorship (you can use your clinical syllabus here)...go to job fairs, even if they say they want "experienced nurses only", show up and meet some recruiters! Network with everyone you know. Any additional languages/skills are a great thing to include on resumes, as well any extracurricular things you do in your life (volunteering, professional memberships)...and don't forget perfect grammar and spelling :) Good luck!

Chesam7-- May I ask where in Texas? I'm also already in the process of moving from cali to Texas to the Houston area. New grad rn and applying where ever they accept new grads, however my dream would be to get into the ER

I have an ADN and I did not have any help. What I did was I sent my application and then called the hr recruiter and asked about the position. She called the manger for me and a few days later I got an interview.

What did you ask in particular? I always get nervous thinking about sounding too desperate..
